Retired Maj. Gen. John Batiste : "I think we need senior military leaders who understand the principles of war and apply them ruthlessly, and when the time comes, they need to call it like it is," / "Specifically, I feel he has micromanaged the generals who are leading our forces there," {Maj. Gen. Charles} Swannack said in the telephone interview.

So much for the military that is happy with and supports the administration. And so much for Bush's "decisions are made by the Generals in the field" bullcrap. Bush is like a fcuking lawyer: You know he lies when moves his lips. Actually, he's worse than that. Your worst lawyer doesn't get tens of thousands of people killed...

But all these guys are bitching now that they are retired. Why doesn't one of them have the balls to say this stuff when on duty and then resign. I would then have more respect for what they say. Plus you don't get to be a general without political connections, so these could all just be Democrates that happened to be flag officers at one time.

They probably didn't want to be pushed out of their jobs, like the general who claimed that the occupation of Iraq would need more manpower back in the days. Of course, they might be politically motivated, but it seems to me that anyone, regardless of political stripe, should be critizing a defense secretary who is clueless, makes obviously wrong decisions, and refuse to acknowledge any kind of errors. Blind obedience might be a good characteristic in some recruit, but not in a general of a democratic nation...

Permanent Green Card Holder since 2006, considering citizenship application in the future.
