My Fiance has her interview on November 8th and I anticipate her arrival around Thanksgiving. I am interested to know from other Filipinas or their husbands what I could do to make her adjustment to living in the US easier. We will live in Colorado and life is much different than what she is used to in Iloilo. She tells me not to worry about her adjustment here. I plan on getting the Filipino Channel for our TV and there are 2 Filipino stores in Colorado Springs that I know of. She will have high speed internet access to keep in touch with her family and phone cards. I feel blessed to have her and am most fortunate that she is a Filipina.

HOME: Get a youtube.com account so she can watch Filipino shows/soap operas that she likes (if interested). Some folks get the Filipino Channel via cable/Direct TV/Whatever. Oh, you'll have to get deeply involved in showing her around the city and getting her out of the house.

FAMILY: If she has a Smart or Globe account, tell her to keep it active and check whether her family can eload her account. That way they can text her cheaply. Consider getting an international text package with your local carrier or do a cost analysis on having that versus loading the Smart or Globe account. In addition, if your family is close by, try to keep them engaged in communicating and social events with your wife.

COUPLES: Check here on VJ to see if any couples live in your area so that the wives can mingle and hopefully develope friendships. She might be shy about this so you will have to take the lead and make it happen.

HEALTH: Work out together. Talk walks together. Potentially obtain a gym membership for her or the both of you. If she likes intramual sports, check with the local parks and recreational centers for listings.

SCHOOL: Another idea is for her to enroll in ESL classes, tech school, nursing school, or whatever (if she is interested).

VOLUNTEER: You might consider checking out volunteer work for her (if she is interested) at the hospital, library, schools, YMCA, and etc (well this is at least until she is able to work).

That's all for now...

Cheers!!!

Main thing for most pinay is missing family.

I bought my wife a laptop and hooked her up to DSL when she was still in PI.

When she came here she left the laptop with sis.

They chat, cam and talk almost daily.

Not much of a problem here in Hawaii as we have 30% filipinos on this island and she can yak all she wants with her fellow countrymen.

Plus we have all the same foods here as the Philippines. Oops! Haven't seen balut yet!!

NOT cold here naman!

Believe me when I say! If she is anything like my pinay wife and anak. You are blessed!

Yeah no culture shock here for my fiance. She has family here, the Island is about 40% filipino. Also she is not white, so she will fit right into the local culture here in Hawaii. Heck she wil fit in better than me, esp when we go shopping at wal-mart or go the the farmers market. Also the climate is similar here, just a little colder.

She is so lucky that she has a husband like you. You really cared about her and that was nice. Adjusting culture is the most difficult time for a First timer like her. 'Climate " is no. 1...it's getting colder and colder in here but I don't have any idea the weather at your place..but for me i hate most is the winter season. brrrrrr!!!! Be sure to have a heater in your house or you have to buy her warm clothings. "Conversations ' If she is not good in english, watching english programs everyday will help her learn right dictions and grammar,Then "food",I suggest you to bring her at chinese restaurants...About the immigration steps...be sure to contact the USCIS for inquiry once she arrived here.here in this website ,you can find lots of ideas and shared experience depending on your type of your application. I-485 is Adjustment of status for persons who is already in US and the processing will not take long if you will provide all the necesary documents . Goodluck for both of you! :)
