Hi all. I arrived in the USA March 2006 on a k1 visa (originating country = canada). At the border they took my paperwork, and stapled a piece of paper into my passport.

I haven't yet applied for EAD, Early Parole, SSN, ....or anything. We got married April 1st.

Earlier this week I received a Welcome Notice in the mail from the Texas Service Center (Immigration & Naturalization Service Center).

Then ... today I received a Permanent Resident Card in the mail that expires in 2016. Am I missing something, or is this right?

Although I would love to tell you that you are a very lucky person who's managed to receive their permanent resident card without ever submitting an AOS application I'm afraid it sounds to me like there has been some sort of mixup after the file you handed over at the POE was sent to Chicago.

If you entered on a K-1 in march and didn't get married until the start of this month there is absolutely no way that you should have received either a welcome to america letter or a permanent resident card of any kind. In addition, the card you have received (which sounds like a 10 year green card) is normally only issued to people who have been married for more than 2 years. The fact that you've received this card after less than 2 weeks of marriage definately points to an administrative cockup somewhere along the line.

My suggestion would be to make an infopass appointment at your local USCIS office. Take along all of the documents you have received and explain to them where in your own visajourney you are. It should be pretty clear to any immigration officer that something has gone a bit haywire with your case. I would aim to get all this straightened out before you submit any further paperwork.

I hope you get it all sorted out. Best of luck and congratulations on the wedding !!

Mark :)

I agree with Mark.

Someone must have made a big mistake and sent you that card.

I would get this sorted out as soon as you can.

Sorry, but the rest of the posters are right.... it's not that easy to get the GC.

And it needs to be rectified, because if it isn't, it will only come back to haunt you in the future. And the sooner you get it straightened out, the better.

Good luck and best wishes on your recent wedding.

My questions is how did they send you a 10 yr green card if you have never even sent in the passport style photos? Is there a picture on the card?If so where did that picture come from?
