the cake was for 375 actually...there is tons of detail which takes a lot of time... that price includes delivery and someone to slice and serve the cake as well and also mini bride & groom cakes that are the same as the large cake it isn't unreasonable at all...it isn't unreasonable to people who have a large budget for their reception.

Hmm I dunno. I mean thats still 10 bucks per serving and much higher than the posh bakeries I visited. Your work is very nice, don't get me wrong. But those are the kinds of rates you would expect to see from someone who has been in the business for quite some time and has a big portfolio and large clientele. Just my 2 cents.

The lady I used is just starting out which is why her prices were so low. She could definitly charge more, like 5-7 dollars a serving but I think she is just trying to get some customers first.

I've been in the business for awhile and worked as the pastry chef in a few 3 michelin star restaurants as well as some of the top kitchens in the US. I have a very large portfolio...doesn't matter though this is a thread for people to show off their wedding cakes not a debate

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

Well, I've mastered the styrofoam layer

My diet cannot allow me to start experimenting with cakes right now  But maybe when he gets approved, I'll start!

Tash, if you experiment, make sure you do the same....piccies, recipes, etc!

I will definitely do that!

I agree. Our reception cost about 18K and only $700 of that was for the cake.

Holy cow! I can't even imagine paying that much for a party! That must have been an amazing reception that you and your guests will never forget.

I need to remember to ask my parents what they paid for my last wedding reception and cake. Honestly, if they paid anywhere near a few GRAND for a frickin cake...then omG that's just gonna suck.

No offense to anyone who's paid that/charges that....but I can't honestly fathom spending 4 grand on a cake. It's just cake!

Yeah, it would have to be some kind of self-replicating cake, where no matter how much you ate, you'd always have a whole cake :P

I was watching one of those wedding shows the other day and there was this fairly large cake taht was really pretty.. it was a Tiffany themed wedding so the cake was blue with white ribbons.... and it only cost about $175 ... and then a few days later I was watching this other show and the cake was smaller and not as pretty and it cost over 300 dollars

***************

I loved my wedding cake... I made it myself... it was by no means professional looking but it was inexpensive and it tasted awesome  .... it was a banana cake with chocolate frosting... I will try and find a picture to scan later...
