the cake was for 375 actually...there is tons of detail which takes a lot of time... that price includes delivery and someone to slice and serve the cake as well and also mini bride & groom cakes that are the same as the large cake it isn't unreasonable at all...it isn't unreasonable to people who have a large budget for their reception.

Hmm I dunno. I mean thats still 10 bucks per serving and much higher than the posh bakeries I visited. Your work is very nice, don't get me wrong. But those are the kinds of rates you would expect to see from someone who has been in the business for quite some time and has a big portfolio and large clientele. Just my 2 cents.

The lady I used is just starting out which is why her prices were so low. She could definitly charge more, like 5-7 dollars a serving but I think she is just trying to get some customers first.

VJ Hours - I am available M-F from 10am - 5pm PST. I will occasionaly put in some OT for a fairly good poo slinging thread or a donut.

We have a budget for about $150 for the cake... I don't think I would want to spend anymore than that really....

I am planning on 3 tiers.. Maybe 4... A mixture of my favourite (Chocolate fudge and marzipan ) and Chris's (Red Velvet) and strawberries and icing. Just need to find someone good to make it now!

I think i'd quite like to go for a simple looking cake though, a bit like Devilette's :D I also love Orchids, they are my favourite. Those and white roses and lillies.

Ugh, I so cant f'ing wait to start planning the wedding properly!!!!

Are you planning on moving anytime soon?:lol:

I would LOVE to be able to make cakes like that... Mind you... I might be able to! I have never tried

 No, I've done my East Coast time.

Practice makes perfect! ;) Go to a specialty baking store (not Wal Mart) & you can find all you need to try.

I put Rhosie through a bakery class about the time for our 1 year anniversary (just being together; not marriage yet). It was a strawberry cake with creme filling. She excelled in the class. She really has a knack for baking. I'll be sure to get her plenty of stuff for baking once she gets here and who knows; maybe she'll be the one to do our cake ;) Hope y'all enjoy the pics. I know I do.

That's some awesome decorating work that Rosie did, FIL!

that weaving stuff on the sides...wow!

I know. I was so impressed when I saw the cakes she made. Such talent from someone that had never done that before. She was the envy of all her classmates. That just gives us another option once we make our way back to live in the philippines.

We just got a regular small layer cake with flowers at a fancy bakery near my house. It was yellow cake with strawberries and vanilla custard between the layers, and I got them not to write anything on it (I hate it when cakes say something!) so they put rosebuds across it and that was that. I actually hate yellow cake but we'd ordered white and then when we cut it we found out it was yellow.
