Ok....I was reading through threads and started to worry as everyone was talking about translations that they were doing for their supporting documents to go along with their DS-230, but I was under the distinct impression and I'll quote from the instructions I have that, ""All documents not in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations." Meaning in my case that if the document is in English OR Russian I am good to go without a translation. Is this correct? I posted this also in a follow-up to someone elses thread, but I thought it needed it's own thread start to get any response.

Thanks,

Brian

If you're talking about documents being sent to the NVC then yes, every document not in English needs to be original or certified and has to have a translation.

If you're talking about documents that you need to take to the embassy, then those do not have to be translated.

VERBATIM INSTRUCTIONS DS- 230

Translations

All documents not in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations.

The translation must include a statement signed by the translator that states that the:

Translation is accurate, and

Translator is competent to translate.

It is my understanding that any form going through processing in the United States needs to be translated. I think if you are an expatriate US citizen filing for a visa locally through an US Embassy overseas, you have the second option of giving documents in the official language of the country.
