Hi there:

I tried to look for the answers for the questions I have had but could not find them. Please help me again here and I apologize in advance if these questions have been asked and answered a thousand times already. this AOS thing gets me so confused, unlike I-129f.

1. Does I-864 need to be notarized? It doesn't say so in the instruction, but I read somewhere (not on VJ) that it needs to be notarized.

2. Do I need to send proof of our relationship other than a certified marriage certificate with I-485? Or wait until my interview to show it?

3. Can I sign up to check status online? Or I can use the account I have had since the K-1 thing?

I greatly appreciate your time and help.

1) NO  I-864 does not need to be notarized.

2) All we sent was copy of marriage cert as per VJ Guides, result: Green-Card without interview.

3) You can use the account you used for K-1, just add the I-485 case number to the account when you get NOA1, or if you can read the number printed on the back of the personal check you use to pay for the petition.

File for EAD and perhaps AP with the I-485 the $1010 paid for AOS also covers AP and EAD.

1. Not sure I don't think so. We had the person who help fill out the app sign it. It was actually a non profit Church group.

2. No you can show them that at the interview.

3. We took the send it and forget it approach and things worked out well. Less stress and lots of surprises when we rec mail from customs.

I followed the AOS guide here on VJ and it seemed to work, Claudeth received her GC in a little over five months without an interview

Are the Affidavit of Support forms required to be notarized?

No. The sponsor just has to sign the form. You should know however, when the sponsor signs an Affidavit of Support form, he/she certifies that the information provided, transcript and/or photocopy of tax documentation is true and correct, under penalty of perjury.

Answers 1,2,3....

1) The Affidavit of Support does not need to be notarized since you will file the ORIGINAL with ORIGINAL SIGNATURE.

2) Look specifically at the instructions for form in question Is it asking you to send any other documents? Usually, it will specify what documents are required.

The marriage certificate with English translation (CERTIFIED BY THAI MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS) is something you should file.

3) You can sign up to check case status online. However, I find it just as easy to call the NVC also. (603) 334-0700. Just have you case number on hand.

2) The OP is K-1, so married in the USA so the marriage cert, is in ENGLISH.

3) NVC has nothing to do with Adjustment of Status, USCIS handles AOS.
