Is the welcome notice the actual green card?

No, The welcome notice is another C-797 Notice of Action, just saying that you have been approved, welcome to the United States of America, and that you should receive you Green card in X amount of time.

Hope this helps and CONGRATS!

Thanks, and congrats to you, too!

Thanks for all the replies and congrats!

One more question... should we get another status update stating something like "card production has been ordered" before he'll get the GC in the mail? I thought I've seen that on here somewhere but wasn't sure if that's a standard message or not. Has everyone who's recieved a GC gotten that message or is it possible it'll come in the mail without anything further from USCIS?

A week after our interview we received that letter, then two weeks later we received the green card. Sorry if I confused you yesterday. Since you were approved without interview you should receive the welcoming/approval letter soon.

I received and email stating notice mailed for new permanent resident, I havent had an email for card production as yet, but my online status shows that card production has been ordered, so you may or maynot get an email, but check the online status.

Ah! Thanks!

For the record (in case anyone is reading this later and has this question) I didn't actually get an email with the update I posted here. I just checked the status online and saw it had been updated but we have not recieved ANY email about this.

We got the actual notice this weekend in the mail. It states that he has been approved to be a permanent resident and welcoming him to the US as a permanent resident. It says he doesn't need to do anything else and his GC should be arriving in the mail in the next three weeks. It also gives him his A# and tells him how important that number is. I didn't look to see if it was different but he's had an A# since he got his visa I think.

Anyway, can he start applying for jobs now or does he need to wait until he has the physical GC in his hands? Will this letter serve as proof of permant residency status until the GC arrives?

I wonder about the same thing...yesterday the message was "card production ordered" and today, "welcome notice issued," or something similar. So we should first expect the welcome notice and then sometime behind the actual card?

I can't believe how quickly this went!

The "Welcome Notice" just is a letter welcoming the new permanent resident. The "Approval Notice" is the one with the green card in it.
