I have gathered all the stuff that I need to submit with the I-130 and need to write the cover letter tonite. My simple question is: how do I bind all this stuff together ( I am including thick things like my divorce decree; copy of joint lease, etc). Shall I just submit it all with one of those big black binder clips or..?

Should I submit with certified mail? (I would prefer to overnight it, but the only addresses I see are PO Boxes and you cant overnight to those  )

Thanks in advance for the help!

I Used a 2 hole punch, punched everything a the top, and used 1 ACCO fastener to hold everything together per VJ and USCIS recommendations. USCIS uses the 2 holes to bind your case in their folders, staples make it harder for them to handle the paperwork.

Hi Delicia,

I used paper clips :)

Anyway, since you are just getting started I thought you might find this page interesting as well:

Former USCIS adjudicator thread

He answers a lot of stuff, including what happens to the documents, what they think about how they are put together (about 2/3rds of the way down the page).

Excellent information, thanks for the link!

I have one concern and this is the item (I think) held up my Canadian immigration. I am 19 years older than my spouse. Do you think we should address that issue in the cover letter (or some other appropriate place) in the I-130 package or should I take a wait and see attitude and see if it is an issue. I know the CIC I/O that did the initial review of my file wrote a sentance about it, but mostly s/he just bashed our small wedding (was just family). Regardless, we lived together for over 2 years (4 months prior to wedding and then until I moved back to U.S. last month).

Interesting question, my personal opinion is not to. You have been married a lot longer now than when you applied in Canada. In theory it shouldn't be an issue at all.

As long as you have included solid proof of your relationship with your I-130 - like your joint bills etc etc - I think the age difference is a non-issue.
