I think there are a lot of well-traveled people on this board, and I curious about what you consider to be your top 5 places you have seen and what are the top 5 places you have not seen yet but dream of going.

For me my top 5 would be:

1. The many times I have circumambulated Swayambhu Stupa, Kathmandu in the early morning - there is something truly powerful about this place and it is truly my 'heart place' - when I first came here in '01 I felt as though I had found my true home. It was very appropriate that my husband and I first set eyes on each other at its base, at the foot of the huge Buddha statue - and also appropriate that we spent our wedding night at the wonderful Hotel Vajra nearby.

2. Climbing Mt. Emei in China-probably the most physically challenging thing I have done.

3. Samye Monastery in Tibet - the first Tibetan Buddhist monastery, founded by Guru Rinpoche

4. Walking through Venice on foggy winter mornings

5. Rewalsar, HP, India

My dream places:

1. The Manu clay licks, Peru - I think heaven must be seeing so many parrots in one place flying free

2. Watching the Aurora Borealis in Alaska

3. Annapurna Base Camp trek

4. Circumambulate Mt. Kailash

5. Climb the other 3 holy mountains in China(Wutaishan, Taishan, Putuoshan)

The first trip I took overseas was to southern Germany, in high school- I will never forget it. The architecture, the Black Forest, the paintings at the Alte Pinakothek in Munich(definitely one of my top 3 European cities), the food(spaetzle with cheese and mushrooms -to die for), my first legal(and GOOD) beer and the first time this Hawaii girl had ever seen snow mountains.

I wanna go back!!!

I also love Austria for similar reasons.

Brazil - I think I would go nuts(in a good way) seeing parrots and monkeys all over the place :)

Aww, don't spoil my dream!

There are plenty of monkeys in Nepal and on Mt. Emei(very aggressive and smart - they waited in ambush on the balcony outside our hotel room for us to come out in the morning) but I want to see wild parrots!!! The only ones I have seen were in Rewalsar- ringnecks like my avatar - very cool to see them roost in the trees on the cliff overlooking the lake.

My all-time favorite was exploring the Philippines. Of course I would also like to play a few course in Scotland but there are also lots of places in the good Ol U.S. of A that I want to see too. I have never been to the east coast so haven't experienced all that history so will certainly put that on my 'things to do list' when I retire.
