Crossing in to Canada before 10 year GC arrives?

Hi all

I have a question regarding the wait on my 10 year green card. My conditional card expired in August. I filed my Removal of Conditions in June and got a receipt saying my residency has been extended for one year while I await the processing for my 10 year card.

I want to go on a hockey road trip with my friends to Canada next month. I am not sure if I can though because of my status. Is it ok to just make sure I bring my expired GC and my notice with the extension mentioned on it? Or should I just stay put and wait for my card to come?

Any info will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Suzie

You should be fine with expired Green Card, receipt from uscis and your passport.

Good luck

If you're going to be driving you won't even need a valid passport. You will only need a valid passport along with your expired GC and receipt if you fly in.

HOWEVER, after January 31, 2008, you will need a passport in addition to your expired GC and receipt to drive or fly into Canada.

Here it is from Homeland security:

Yeah thanks for that. I wasn't intending to take my passport because I know I won't need it but the whole expired GC was just iffy to me. Thanks for your help and your responses :)
