Hi,

Trying to prep for IR1 interview in Montreal.

Not finding many IR1/CR1 reviews.... most on started threads are Ks. and when I look in the "reviews" place, each time I click on the continuation to see the rest of teh story for an IR/CR inteviews, it takes me to some other interview, always K, and never the one before or after the review listed I was looking for. Is there another way to get int?

I'm mainly wanting to know...

1. our appointment letter says they have all our docs, just bring up to date photos and medical stuff. REally? Should we get/bring second originals of everything anyway? Seems overkill to me. They SAY they have these things.

2. what are the questions they'll ask you? heck we are married 6 years. so far for the CR and K spouse interviews I'm seeing a lot of: how did you meet, give me more detail on that, why move to states, what are your work plans. Anything else you have heard asked a lot?

I noticed the comments elsewhere on bringing an expresspost envelope for them to mail your visa. why didn't they say that in the interview letter?

any other things to bring / prepare for?

Good question! Now that you mention it, my letter didn't say anything about the envelope either. I hope someone knows the answer to this!

I know what you are talking about, I thought the review section was weird at first too. The confusing part is the 'read entire review' link. It looks like you are on a new page when you do that - because it expands all the reviews on that same page - really it is the same page though. So you can just read that page then scroll right down to the bottom to proceed to the next page.

Neiks - half way down the page here: http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/index.p...nada&page=4

Colin - 2nd review on this page: http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/index.p...nada&page=5

Mao and also Ernie - 1st and 2nd reviews on this page: http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/index.p...nada&page=8

Juben - 1st on this page: http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/index.p...nada&page=9

Crystal - 2nd on this page: http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/index.p...ada&page=10

Anyway those are a few to get you started!

I had my Cr-1 interview in Dec 2004. They should already have the original documents, as you mailed them in already! They didnt loose any of mine, lol But I was a freak and paid for extra originals, but they were not required.

They didnt ask me many questions, i was in and out of the interview room in less than 10 minutes, and most of that was the lady looking over paperwork. Asked very basic questions such as: how we met. what my wife does for work, what i plan to do in the usa. very basic and was quick! Just take ur time, ensure u have all ur paperwork and u should be good to go!

At 1 time you got the visa the same day, then they changed to next day,and now they mail them out! At least for Montreal! Vancouver for the K1 and K3 still hands them out next day I believe. Why they differ, who knows, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Hey peoples :)

On the interview letter, it lists a website with all the info you're looking for. Type it in, click on the Interview Preparation link and read every page!

Nice! Hey djc would you mind posting the link here?

Doh! Not sure how I missed it the first time, but djc is right, there is a link right on the first page with all the instructions.

Here it is:

Mom and Pop are IR5s so much of the IR info is the same. Bring copies (at least 2x) of everything you sent and the originals if you sent in copies. It may be overkill but better to be overprepared than underprepared. You don't want a careless file clerk to cause you a delay. The interview information (found at the website) has an error, the envelope size is 12" by 15". The metric equivalent is 304.5mm by 381mm not 314mm by 394mm as stated on the website. Canada Post only sells one size that's close, the large size prepaid envelope which is 305mm by 394mm. So you need that one.

Look over the NOTICE TO VISA APPLICANTS page and just go through the items, individually and that's it. Since your inrterview is before December 19, I can't really help you with what types of questions you might be asked. You should be ready for the same questions that CR and K spouses get just in case. The longer a marriage for IR1s, the less likely that you will be grilled.

The interview is not actually that bad. They ask normal questions like

How did you meet?

Have you met each other's family?

Why can't you live here in Canada together? (this one offended me a little being the USC since he was implying I shouldn't stay in my own country)

When did you start dating?

We are different religions, so they asked questions about that and what our families thought about it and about the wedding ceremony.

They really didn't ask many questions. We were both there and the guy kind of observed us a little and laughed at me correcting him....guess that proved we were married LOL :)

Actually I was just thinking - the people at the consulate are probably grasping for questions to ask, I mean really, what is there to ask? (Assuming you have a fairly normal looking person or couple sitting in front of you and all their paperwork is in order)

I just had my IR-1 interview 3 weeks ago. They already had all our original documents. No fees to pay, as I already paid the $380. last year sometime. I still brought my little my file folder with copies of everything anyway. I did have to renew my RCMP Police Cert, as it had been over 10 months since my last one was done. Good thing, cuz she asked me for it!!! I also had to renew my passport just before the interview, and she asked me if I had a photocopy of it, which I did!! Along with my interview letter, I got instructions of what to bring, etc. In there, it was stated to bring an expresspost envelope, and also was a list of all the original documents that they had received and reviewed.

The questions I was asked:

How did you meet your husband?

What does he do in the military?

What boat is he on?

You've been married 3.5 years, why did you wait so long to apply for your visa?

Wow, that must have been difficult huh?

So, you really want to move to the US and be a navy wife?? (we both laughed)

That was it. I think it was in the little closet of an interview room, for all of 3.5 mins.

The only answers to the questions they ask that they know for sure, are the ones you provided on the forms. So the questions are very basic. They don;t have anyone tailing you, trying to find ur deepest secrets.

Well C&C should be getting grilled right about now on their deepest secrets!

Good luck on your interview today
