A few questions about Green Card, SS card/number, and Selective Service

Hi all,

Just had a few questions:

- It's been nearly a month since I arrived in the US on a CR1 visa, and I haven't yet received my Green Card in the post. I've had a few problems with mail with my name on it being returned to senders, because the Post Office hadn't bothered to update their system (I'm living with my in-laws, and even though my Mother-in-Law had notified them to accept mail to their address with my name on it, they've still been returning stuff), so I was wondering if anyone knows who I should call to check if the Green Card has been mailed yet?

- I had a social security number from a previous job in the US, and have been using that. I checked the box on the form that I already have one - will they be mailing me a new SS card (with the same number on it)? The one I currently have has a stamp on it saying "only valid for word with DHS authorisation".

- I tried to register online with Selective Service a couple of weeks ago, however they could not find my SS number. I mailed in a form, and checked online yesterday to see if I'd registered, but they haven't been able to find my registration. Should I call them yet or wait a bit longer for their system to update?

Many thanks for any help given!

Make sure you Name is on the inside of the mailbox..... You can make an infopass appointment at your local office to check if it has been issued yet....

You may need to go to the SSA office to get a new card...
