I didn't, and the judge ended up making this speech about how many couples divorce, how hard our life would be, and how she wouldn't be suprised to see us to there again in year for the divorce, 'cus of the statistics. :o It wasn't a very happy civil wedding but we know we won't be part of the statistics.

I personally, would say whats in my heart, dont write stuff down! Just say what you want in the moment it will come to you naturally. No scripts! Just the heart.

For our wedding ceremony we wrote the entire ceremony ourselves and had family members deliver the different parts. We'd already have the official marriage ceremony six months earlier, at a registrar's office, so we thought we could just go all out and say what we wanted.

My stepfather gave welcome and closing addresses, my mother read out the exchange of vows, my mother-in-law read out the exchange of rings, my father-in-law is a professional singer, so naturally he sang a beautiful song, and we had my aunt, sister-in-law and brother-in-law give readings that were from song lyrics that we really liked. We wrote our own vows to say to each other as well. Every part of the ceremony (except the lyrics) was written by us. We wanted our closest family totally involved in the celebration. After the ceremony, we received many compliments that is was so nice to see the whole family involved and to hear words that we had written, not standard vows. It was very personal.

Thanks for the great stories! (Except Luis and Laura...what a jerk that judge was! Prove her wrong!)

I like the idea of family and friends being involved, because they helped us get where we are, by being so supportive of our relationship.

@ Marc, I would like some of it to be "on the spot" but not my vows because I'm doing them in German and I'll have to read those, or I may be vowing something entirely inappropriate :)

I LOVE the pirate wedding vows, but P wouldn't go for it! We're having bagpipers for the processional and the recessional and my dress is medieval, that's probably about all the non-traditional stuff his family can handle.
