Hi there:

Here is the situation I am in:

I have my SSN and SS card from my previous stay of 8 years here in the US under a J-1 visa (not work authorized). now that I get married and would like to have a new name on my card, so I went to the SS office yesterday and was told that I have to wait until I have EAD to be able to get a new card with my new name.

I also have a driver license in Alabama that expried only 3 months ago (now I live in FL).

I have some questions to ask you guys:

1. What can I do to get a new driver license in FL?

2. Do I need to wait until I get a new SS card to get my driver license?

3. Do I need to take all the tests again to get the FL driver license?

4. Do I really need to wait until I get the EAD to get a new SS card?

5. Should I wait until my new name is on all documents to do other things, such as having my nursing license endrosed from AL to FL?

6. this is a question about I-765 item 16: is it (a)(6) I need to put in? I just wanted to make sure.

Your answers/inputs are highly appreciated.

You have to wait for your Greencard to change your name a new drivers license or you can apply for FL drivers license with your maiden name and have it changed when your greencard or EAD arrived. Some States requires to take the test to get a new driver's license, try to visit your local FL DMV.

For your question #6 : Put ©(9) if you apply 1-765 together with your AOS.
