Well, I think all of us who are a bit bothered by this stuff acknowledge that we can read what the person has typed, but that is not the point! The point is that we know these things to be grammatically incorrect, and therefore it bothers us. We all have our pet peeves and those of us who have a love of the written word find this kind of stuff annoying.

Nah, on a message board, it's not that much of a biggie to me, regardless whether the writer of the infraction is a native speaker or not... It's not worth getting my panties in a bunch. People are typing quickly and misteaks ;) happen! I have more things to get bent out of shape about. Since I'm not perfect.... shocking I know....I don't expect anyone else to be.

Now in a formal letter at work, for instance....then it gets on my last nerve.

That is neat! I understood it too! I agree though, in the big scheme of things, that is the least thing that irks me on VJ.

I think there was actually a thread about this before

For me, the apostrophes used to denote plurals grates the hell outta me. ;)

An apostrophe should be used when making a plural of an abbreviation and that is hardly ever done. But it don't bother me.

Only when the abbreviation has internal punctuation.

I think since there are many people on VJ for whom English is not there first language or have difficulties.... I think people do well... if it bothers you that much then maybe this is not the place for you... There are lots of things that bother lots of people but we don't all start a thread about it... I hate photo's in peoples signatures but they are there so I have to deal.. If the worst that people do to you is spell thing incorrectly then you have nothing to worry about...

Kez

lol.. actually the people from whom I've seen the most mistakes, are from english speaking countries.. so, no, the furriners are not the biggest offenderzzzz

You can't turn off just the photo.... you have to turn off the entire signature.... now some people have good links and usful info in their signature that I want to be able to see... so its not quite as easy as just turn them off..

As for the native speakers making mistakes, please remember that some people do have major issues with the written word... If you are dislexic then to you it may look right when in fact it is mis-spelt.. or the wrong instance.

I go into my preferences for Firefox and uncheck, load images while I'm at work. It lessons the amount of bandwidth. :)

It's not how close the letters on the keyboard are that causes it. It's your fingers getting ahead of each other when you type too fast.
