Nah...I'm just sick of seeing it again and again....

My hubby goes to work earlier than me and I never go back to sleep - so I'm messing around on VJ.

But yes, it IS annoying.

I'm so tired lately that I pull stunts like that and worse by writing and placing words in the wrong place, the mind is quicker than the fingers doing the typing and often after writing I read what I wrote and it does definately not make any sense at all because words are missing that were on my mind but never made it to the screen. I am sure that I always mess up beleive and believe just can't wrap my mind around those two and figure which is the right way. I have never been good at grammer so be patient and please disregard my punctuations as they are placed wherever.

I also find this to be annoying! The other ones that bug me are 'to' vs. 'too' and the real kicker for me is 'could of' which really should be 'could have'. Just my little pet peeves, but nothing I lose sleep over.

And LisaD is right! There have been a few threads abouth this, but I always thinks its worth mentioning again since maybe someone will learn from these impromptu grammar threads!

I think since there are many people on VJ for whom English is not there first language or have difficulties.... I think people do well... if it bothers you that much then maybe this is not the place for you... There are lots of things that bother lots of people but we don't all start a thread about it... I hate photo's in peoples signatures but they are there so I have to deal.. If the worst that people do to you is spell thing incorrectly then you have nothing to worry about...

I don't mind so much on here because many posters aren't native speakers. I wouldn't even pretend I could be grammatically correct in German. However, that doesn't mean I don't get irritated when I see:

Your/You're

Accept/Except

Their/There/They're

or

Affect/Effect

used incorrectly. I can't help it. I'm an English teacher and a full time nerd :)

Kez

Exactly.

I have far less sympathy on this matter for those who supposedly speak English as their first language. However, if English is your second or third or even fourth language, then I can certainly understand making a few mistakes. After all, there are a number of illogical leaps that need to be made in English that most of us who speak it take for granted.

For instance... look at the letters "C", "S" and "K". We all know what sound an "S" and a "K" makes, right? Well, can't a "C" make the same sounds? So why do we even have an "S" or a "K" in the first place? I know that's how the language works, but why? It seems unnecessary. I think little things like that tend to make it difficult for people to learn English and figure out the proper way to use it. ;)
