Should I call USCIS to ask for help or not?

I need to call USCIS to ask them specific questions about my case. However, I don't want to have them to record anything that may hurt my case. I don't know if they log information in whenever they speak to you which affects your status.

My concern is should the USCIS be the 1st or last place to call for information about my specific situation? I want to protect myself because I don't know the answers to my questions.

Thanks.

When you call USCIS, there is a recording saying they may record the call. You are not giving us enough information to really give you good advice, therefore I suggest you go speak with an immigration attorney.

I wouldn't worry about them recording your call. There is no announcement of it. However, they really are no help whatsoever. I have called to ask questions because my fiance was drafted into the German military and we had to put our case as pending. They had no answers, so my fiance mailed the Embassy a letter, which seemed more effective.

I agree that the help line is very unhelpful. They dont know what's going on at the service centers, can't see much else about your case than what you can see and often times are uninformed on the actual process of the visa. I called once because I still hadn't received my NOA2 hardcopy. I told the lady I hadn't gotten it but was informed by Cali (used the RFE trick) that I had been approved and had received the letter from NVC that they had gotten my app and would be sending it out soon. She told me I was wrong, my case couldn't have been approved yet since I was at 3 months after filing, not the 6 they post online. She also told me that K1's dont go through NVC, so I was also mistaken with that. Always confirm ANYTHING they tell you, as its often wrong or just a restatement of what they post online (which is usually just CYA) I suggest either posting your questions here, make an infopass appt (depending on what you actually need to ask/how damaging it could be) or meet with a lawyer. Either way, dont rely on what the info line tells you!

No way would I ask USCIS operators ANYTHING that may hurt your case.

They are basically useless at giving correct info anyway other than giving a petition number.

I don't know why they don't just do away with the misinformation line. Really...what information can you get from them? Absolutely none. All it does is add to the frustration and confusion. Almost better to be left in the dark than talk to them and get told one thing one day and something completely different the next.

Yes, they are useless. Don't forget they are also contractors so they have no interest in giving correct info anyway.

It's a waste of time to trust them.
