*Ian dresses quickly, grabs his wallet and walks out of the room to the hotel’s gift shop. Luckily the shop is still open. He begins looking for items befitting his new queen. There are quite a few cheesy and cheap items housed there. But, he manages to find a terry cloth jogging suit with ‘Jamaica’ on the back of the pants. He also finds a pair of matching flip flops. Ian expertedly guessed Melodee as a size six, and walks to the counter to make his purchase. He asks the clerk if there is anywhere that he can purchase fine jewelry tonight. The clerk tells him that she can help him by opening the adjacent jewelry store. Ian pays for the items, and they walk together to the jewelry store.

Ian stops in front of the diamond pieces when the lights come on. He doesn’t want to overwhelm her with the first gift. Ian selects a pair of canary yellow diamond 18k white gold earring studs to match her new jogging suit. The clerk places them gingerly into an elegant black gift box, and wishes him a good night. Ian is sure that she will forget the unpleasantries, and he walks back to his room with a happy gait.*

*Melodee takes advantage of the alone time by listening to her messages as the tub fills with warm water. She adds bath salts and lights candles to sooth her nerves.*

Voicemail announcement: Message number 1… Ah mi Shotta. Yuh gwaan vexed fe nuh reason Mel. Mi love yuh. Mi neva knoa a gyal name Mya. Mi nuh knoa why mi bawl hout de name so. Likkle more.

Message number 3… Mel ah mi Tran. Pick hup de rhaatid phone! Whaa mek yuh can treat mi so? Call mi back. Lata.

Message number 4... EEEHHHNNNN???

*The messages continued in much the same manner, with the only difference being the slurred speech toward the last couple of messages. Melodee waited to hear Tran confess love and an apology. But, it was not forthcoming in either message. Melodee felt her heart lurch, and she tossed the phone onto the sofa. She steps into the warm tub, reclines slowly and closes her eyes. Melodee didn’t realize how drained she was, and awoke with a start when Ian re-entered the suite. The water was cool, but not uncomfortable. She bathed quickly, and wrapped herself in one of the plush terry robes.*

Ian: Jamaican Gem. Where are you? I got something for you. *Ian tucks the jewelry box into his jeans pocket and places the bag with the outfit on the bed.*

Melodee: I’m in here. I will be right out. *Mya walks out of the bathroom and stops when she spies the gift shop bag.* You didn’t have to do this Ian. I’m not here because of gifts and money. How yuh stand Melodee mi gyal? Why are you here actually?

Ian: I know. I just figured we could take the walk tonight, and you could wear it shopping tomorrow. I hate that I caused any embarrassment for you with my overzealous lovemaking. I hope that it fits.

*Melodee pulls the jogging suit and flip flops out of the bag, and slips it on. It was a perfect fit, and fashionably showed a little portion of her stomach. Ian’s ####### jumped at the sight of her a** under the word ‘Jamaica’. Melodee gives him a small hug to thank him for his thoughtfulness. Ian grabs the keycard, and they walk out of the room together.

The silence between them is thick with tension and unspoken words at first. They came across a small garden with a white bench overlooking a fish pond. Ian asks Melodee to take a seat for a minute. He places his arm across the back of the bench and her shoulders.*

Ian: I really am sorry for the turn of events tonight. I was under the impression that women loved when the man took charge, and showed his enthusiasm during intercourse. I was so caught up that I didn’t realize that I was literally biting you. My attempt was to give you passion marks not teeth marks.

Melodee, you are right. I have a lot of emotional baggage and prehistoric notions about how to treat a woman. Honestly, I came here after my fiancée. She came here with her best friend, and now she is spending money from our savings on all types of wedding items. She purchased a wedding dress on our joint credit cards, and put deposits on floral arrangements and a reception hall. At first, I thought that she was attempting to force my hand to marry her by purchasing everything here. Now, I’m not so sure because I haven’t heard from her once since they left the US.

Right before my luck changed when I ran into you, I lost over $3000 US. Then, my luck changed again when I ruined the front end of the rental car by hitting the pothole. I ended up riding on the back of a truck filled with white dust for over two miles. I was covered in it. You have been the only bright spot in my trip Melodee. If I didn’t have seeing you to look forward to, I would have lost it a long time ago.

Melodee: Wow. You have been through a lot in a day. Let me ask you something Ian. Are you faithful to your fiancée? I know that you are saying that I’m the exception. However, I am wondering how a woman’s name and number ended up your chest in black marker. There are not too many logical reasons for her not to use pen and paper. Are you even sure you still have a fiancée?

Maybe, she made all the arrangements with a future date in mind for the two of you to marry. Some of the better venues here require advanced notice for bookings. Women are moved by the beauty of Jamaica, and it may have been everything she has ever dreamed of for her wedding day.

Has she ever done anything to give you reason to doubt her intentions? Ian, are you always so skeptical of women?

Ian: I honestly never considered that she was making arrangements for a future date. I was afraid that she ran off to marry some unknown suitor with my hard-earned money. Ha. You surely must think me a fool. She has been a very supportive partner, and she has never given me reason to question her motives. However, I have met and dealt with many women that make you question every woman’s motives. When I see her again, I will be telling her that it’s over for us. I want to tell her about us. Hopefully, there is still an us.

The name and number on my chest was from a woman I met at my local gym. She wouldn’t take no for an answer, and wrote her info on my chest with a Sharpie while I was benchpressing weights.

Now, can I ask you a question?

Melodee: Sure.

Ian: Who are you running from? Your phone rang off the hook for the better part of our date. Then, nothing tonight. I saw you attempting to check your messages when you thought I wasn’t aware. I know that I am a very attractive, intelligent and successful man. However, you weren’t even real sure of a date with me. Then, you not only agreed to go out with me, you even agreed to spend the night with me as well. Are you a gold digger? Or, are you trying to force yourself to get over the person that has been blowing up your phone?

Melodee: That was more than a question. I’m not running from anyone. I told you that I recently broke up with a long term boyfriend, we have dated since secondary. He is the person that continues to call. I’m sure he is calling to find a way back into my life. I’m not so sure I don’t secretly want him to find a way back either. If I’m completely honest, I miss him and I’m wondering what I’m doing here with you. I don’t mind having fun with you while you are in Jamaica. But, I don’t rush into relationships…especially when neither person is completely free of their old relationships.

Ian: Okay. Point taken. I don’t mind a little competition. He should be bringing his A game if he wants to keep you because I intend to step my game up. I won’t leave Jamaica until you are mine Melodee. With that being said, I want to give you something for being my ray of hope…my Jamaican Gem. Please don’t read too much into the gift. I hope that you will not refuse it, as you have refused my heart.

Melodee: Ian. Please. I can’t accept another gift. I mean you just questioned if I was gold digger or not.

Ian: Please Melodee. I want you to have them. The gold digger comment was not meant literally.

*Ian hands the black box to Melodee, and waits for her to open it. Melodee’s hand goes to her throat at the sight of the box. Her hands begin to shake uncontrollably as her head moves in the negative.*

Melodee: Ian. You shouldn’t have. I can’t accept this.

Ian: Open it Gem.

*Melodee opens the lid, and gasps at the beautiful earrings. She has never own anything as expensive as they were. Ian takes the box, and removes the earrings. He places a solitare in each of her ears, and tucks the stray hairs that have escaped her high ponytail behind her ears.*

Ian: They are beautiful…but they pale in comparison to your own beauty. I wish we had a mirror with us. I guess you will just have to take my word for it for now. Melodee, can I ask one more question?

Melodee: Thank you Ian. I will treasure them. Yes, you can ask me a question.

Ian: Will you marry me?

Melodee: Huh? Ian…I’m sorry…I can’t…

Ian: Ha-haa! I was joking. My real question is…may I kiss you now?

Melodee: Oh. Haa-haa! You promise no more violence? *Melodee moves toward Ian on the bench and smiles* I thought you would never ask. Yuh ead gwaan star…mek mi run de game same wey. Sky his de limit…mi ago shoot fe de moon bumbocla** eediat!

Delmar sits on his small verandah and drinks from both six packs of alcohol, and his third spliff burns dangerously close to his now careless fingers. He is intoxicated and fast approaching sloppy drunk status. Delmar silently cursed himself for not purchasing more beer. He can’t believe that he lost two women in the span of a week. He thought he loved them both, but now that Melodee was gone, he wasn’t so sure. Melodee was his rock, his constant. He never thought she would leave him, no matter how many rumours she may have heard about him and other women in the area. The other women knew that Melodee was his true wifey, and they never went too far out of bounds by openly challenging her.

Delmar missed his brother too. They had been close, and had never let anyone interfere with their bond, especially not a woman. He never knew that Tradee had been in love with Melodee. Tradee did an excellent job hiding his feelings. Delmar thought back to the night he and Melodee phocked on the verandah, and it made sense finally why Tradee watched from the gate. Maybe, he was coming to terms with their relationships, and need the final nail in the coffin to move on. Delmar speculated that Mya started out as a revenge phock for Tradee, a way to get back at Delmar for stealing his girl. He wondered if he would be able to talk to Tradee after Mya left Jamaica. Their parents would be devastated to learn that the twins were no longer speaking, and all because of a foreign woman.

Delmar: Damn it! Why was her phone going straight to voicemail?

He had left over three messages and called at least ten times. Surely she wasn’t still with the stoosh farrin man this late at night. Delmar wondered if he could manage to walk to Melodee’s house in his inebriated state. He knew that he could convince her to come home if she would just talk to him. Delmar stands up, and his surroundings whirl around him. He falls back into the old rocker because of the raising bile in his throat, and the spinning in his head. Delmar gets up again and manages to stumble down the small flight of stairs and into his yard.

Delmar: Mi yout yuh ah do de Drunken Dance fe tru. BUMBO!!! HA-HA-HA! Mi bwoy yuh sell hoff! Delmar touch de road an check pon yuh wifey. Mi ago bring yuh ome Mel. Mi knoa yuh miss Shotta.

Delmar begins stomping and staggering down the road singing Mavado tunes and shooting his gun fingers. He even stops occasionally to stoop down and aim at his “target”.

Delmar: Da-Da-DA-DA! Da-Da-DA-DA! Squeeze har breast dem like de trigga of my gun, turn har backway an…PULL UP SELECTA! Dis his de brown bokkle…HENNESSY. HEEEEENNNNNYYYWAAAYYYY…real ganjaman…smoking weed and sipping Hennessy…. Da-Da-DA-DA! Da-Da-DA-DA! Brap! Brap!

Delmar has traveled this path many times, and his feet are on auto-pilot because he mind in definitely incapacitated at the moment.

On Saturday morning, Toya wakes to find Jr stretched out lengthwise across the bed between her and Fitz. He is sucking his two middle fingers, and his toes are dangerously close to Fitz’s open mouth. Toya wants to capture a picture of the two of them sleeping, so she creeps from the bed to grab her camera on the nighttable. The early sun provides enough light that she didn’t have to risk waking them with a flash. Toya begins snapping pictures of them from all angles. She stops briefly to reconsider the next shot, and when she looks in the viewfinder, she finds one of her subjects in a different pose.

Toya slowly lowered the camera from her face, and bit her bottom lip lustily. Fitz had awakened and was now propped up on one hand smiling at her. He had moved Jr. to her side of the bed, and had his other hand under the comforter. Toya could tell from the way the comforter moved, he was pleasuring himself as he watched her. Fitz didn’t have any intent to touch himself when he woke to find Toya deeply engrossed in her craft. However, the sunlight filtering through the shutters pierced her thin nightgown, and showed her glorious curves. Toya had not put on the matching robe in her haste to capture her sleeping subjects.

Toya: *whispering* Good Morning baby. What are you doing? Do you think Jr. will stay asleep for a little while? I think I can help you with your current task in the bathroom, or the other bedroom. *Toya begins snapping pictures of him again. She wants to capture the different emotions playing across his face as the sensations ebb and flow from his handiwork.*

Fitz: *whispering hoarsely from sleep and unspent passion* I’m sure you can tomorrow baby. Ooooo…damn baby. You are so sexy in morning light Mrs. Davidson. I wish…ssssssss…hhhmmmppppfff!

Toya: *whispering* Fitz baby come with me. You are going to wake Jr., and he doesn’t need to learn this type of self gratification yet.
