Southern Cali fires

Annie,

Thanks for the link! The map really helps!

I talked to my sister who lives in Camarillo, CA. She said that there was also a fire near their area that started around the same time as the one in Malibu. Luckily for them, that one did not get to any houses and was immediately placed under control and eventually put out.

I hope the wicked winds have died down and containment of the flames will be easier.

Stay safe everyone. (F)

if it is so bad, why people who are in that area are still online instead of getting outta dodge?

None of us need to be evacuated, but hey, nice of you to question us.

Post #2 is not political - it's about the CAUSE of fires. Just stop starting stuff. PERIOD.

so if you don't need to evacuate, why the hoopla about it being so close?

Sad that you have to take a tragic thread about a state of emergency in our hometowns -

and even though it's fairly close to you, have you made plans to evac?

It is not near us - about 15 miles away but it still affects all of us here in SoCal - we can see the smoke & smell it. Thank you.

Gee Charles...

Let me think, unusually warm climate, no rain, strong winds, sounds like a recipe for disaster. Now, please tell me how your remark about sounding like a republican is even remotely related to this situation. Did you take a possible explanation for the cause of these fires as a personal attack on you?

For God's sake man, just wish everyone well and leave it. We will respect you for that.

makes a lot of sense to ask a question and then follow that up with a stop answering...

Not sure if it was mentioned already, but.... over 350,000 homes have been evacuated in the San Diego area...an estimated amount of nearly a million people displaced because of the fires. :(

....

Authorities are asking people not to drive or leave their homes unless they are in evacuation areas because of the clogging of the roadways...and the logistical problems of trying to place these people in temporary shelter.

We have never experienced this many fires of this magnitude ever. It's a tragic disaster and the state will need outside help to recover.

President Bush plans to visit the area tomorrow. He's declared it a Federal Emergency.

I suggest you watch the news/read the thread before asking your silly questions...several of us have asked you to stop & you refuse. Why? LEAVE THE THREAD ALONE.

Yeah. CNN says: The San Diego Union-Tribune reported on its fire blog that more than half a million San Diego County residents were under evacuation orders as 11 a.m. Pacific time.

It's now 16 fires as well. :(

Hey all. Some of you need to be more sensitive. Please. The fire situation is a tough one and everyone will react differently. It is wrong to assume that if a person reacts differently than you do that they are not undergoing a heightened level of stress. Please try to keep that in mind. Thanks :).

I wasn't being heartless. I know about the area I used to live in Santa Monica. My point is they are making a big deal on the news about how all these celebrities homes are being put in danger. At least it isn't people who are really poor (like how all these poor families in new orleans lost their homes and can't build new ones). I didn't mean to get everyone upset.

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

Some National Guard boss is speaking now - he said President Bush told him to pull his soldiers off THE BORDER PATROL to help the fires. So now there are 200 less watching the border.

Not the place to take our soldiers from...

Watch the news - there are trailer parks burned & plenty of people unable to afford to rebuild.

Actually, this morning I heard the Governator say that he had requested 800 to be pulled from the border. Yikes!

Even if they can afford to rebuild, it's a shock and just as tragic as someone who can't. Additionally, the people who can't often find help either from their government, neighboring states, etc.

A lot of personal memories taken from you that you can't get back. I know, I've lost everything in a fire before.

I hope they get this under control soon.
