I go hiking quite a bit up in the Santa Monicas quite a bit and all summer it's been a tinder box waiting to go off - I thought we might be okay after those heavy rainstorms a few weekends back.

the Malibu/Topanga fire was caused by a fallen power line - the power company really needs to get their butts in gear and do something about the derelict condition of most of those lines, it's like a third world country in most areas.

I guess there's a chance of some this weekend (when we're supposed to go to Six Flags!)....but that's a long ways away.

If it's really going to be 95 today I'll scream!

I actually got a picture yesterday of the cloud over Six Flags as we were driving by (I will upload when I get home) - you don't want to go there any time soon!

It scary stuff to look out our south facing windows and see this smoke cloud that blocks out the sun. One of my employees had to go home this morning because they might get evacuated.

Yep - I drive into work every day along the 405 from near San Clemente to Costa Mesa and this morning it was dark and very smoky. My office is about 5 miles from the Irvine fires and several of our employes are either out today or have been sent home under voluntary or mandatory evacs. It's awful - just hanging in the air with a sense of forboding. The winds right now are about 60mph here and the fire guys are saying they're overwhelmed and can't do anything other than wait and watch. The winds are supposed to last another 36-48 hours - a lot more could be burned up that time.

I wish these idiots would evacuate when they are told to so the firefighters can do their job of FIGHTING FIRES, not rescuing people.

Heard it on the radio this morning... the fire in Irvine was caused by arson. Over 12 fires across the state....dozens of homes have burned down in San Diego. Governor Schwarzenegger has declared a state of emergency in 7 counties.

I can't turn off the streaming on my computer, I gott akeep watching - it just keeps getting worse. And the Malibu one is headed more towards Santa Monica now...

Unf##kingbelievable! What a horse's a$$!

On the October 22 edition of his nationally syndicated radio program, host Glenn Beck stated, “I think there is a handful of people who hate America. Unfortunately for them, a lot of them are losing their homes in a forest fire today.” Beck continued: “There are a few people that hate America. But I don’t think the Democrats are those. I think there are those posing as Democrats that are like that.”

First, just in terms of his on-air comments, Beck is not only offensive; he’s incoherent. I’m left confused trying to understand who, exactly, he thinks hates America. Apparently, they are fake-Democrats who live in southern California?

And second, I’m equally confused about what kind of psychosis leads a person to look at the California wildfires and think about the political ideologies of those who are suffering. I mean, I’m a political guy, and have been for as long as I can remember. But when I see a family fleeing their home, on route to a shelter, because wildfires threaten their community, it just doesn’t occur to me to ask, “I wonder if those people hate America?”

I guess that’s what makes Glenn Beck special.

I remember the fire in claremont in like 2003 or was it 2004? haha I just remember driving to my friend's house and it was insane.

We live in Hermosa Beach & The Air is thick and brown, I hope that Nevada & Arizona can send enough support, The WIld Fires in SD are much worse.

This is horrible & My thoughts & Prayers Go out to all those effected.

I agree, Lives are mor eimportnat than proerty when people do not evacuate as reccoemnded or ordered not only their lives are in dnage but the firefighters as well
