The wind is down right now, I hope it stays that way. Several people from my work have been evacuated due to the fire by Tustin. They said the firemen were in their back yards fighting the file. Way too close

Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented immigrant" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensedregistered pharmacist". (because somebody gives a damn)

Yes, way too close. Hang in there. Hopefully the winds will give them a bit of a break. I am guessing it is just daybreak there so the water bombers should be coming soon.

I live all the way in Florida but I have an empty room if needed. PM me if I can help.

I have to say, I think I understand what Marc is saying, but I do not agree with the method.

Let me start off with the facts that we have two or three fires around us and we have four Red Cross shelters in our community. We have visited, helped and will continue to do so.

I think Marc is saying to be prepared and do not wait till the last minute to get out. The second point I think he is trying to make is that if you can help, please do. Go to a Red Cross shelter and help if you do not have money. If you have the time, go help at a shelter, fire camp, or if you know a firefighter help their family while they are doing what they do.

Marc, the way you are coming across is very abrasive. You are not taking into account where people are at either by locality or mentally. If you said what you meant in an encouraging manner, you would be better received. Most people do not know what to do or how to help.

If you are looking to help, here are some suggestions:

go to the RedCross and sign up to be a volunteer.

Take a disaster preparedness course through the Red Cross

Be a part of the neighborhood watch and part of the plan if a disaster strikes.

as a last note, can we please keep this civil.

The LA Times has a map of the fire perimeters for those looking to keep informed.

It angers me that there are those who think all we are doing here is fretting and sitting on our hands while SoCal burns. There's not a lot else we can do right now, some of us, besides volunteer at the shelters that have been springing up in our communities to help and protect the evacuees. It's a heartbreaking situation and if I could go on the front lines and help the firefighters, you can bet your bottom dollar I would be there right now. Sadly as I have completely no experience, my efforts to help would likely only hinder their security - that's why they don't have a call for volunteers being issued in our community right now.

I like that this thread is offering words of comfort and support, as well as real-world experiences from those in the midst of it. It helps us stay humble and connected to each other, even while we may not all live in the same state or be near enough to reach out to each other. I hope that support and encouragement continues to be available to VJers.

Please be safe. And if you feel restless and want to help, my husband posted info on the Red Cross and how to volunteer. Though it might not feel like much, every little bit of help is appreciated, and it *does* have an effect.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
