*cough!!! its so smoky around here in laguna too. it doesn't help that it was 80-90 degrees today! and sooooooooo DRY! i've woken up the past few days with a bloody nose and headaches. the fires are all around, but i feel lucky they aren't close enough for us to evacuate. i feel for those who lost their homes and personal items! :(

Hi Jen! Long time no see. :) Yeah, we've been getting nosebleeds and headaches too. :( If only we could get some moisture in the air. :(

Let's stay on topic (a newsworthy event) and put to rest the bickering otherwise this thread will be closed.

This is a good thread. It is informative and helpful. The majority here are doing all we can to continue this thread in the spirit in which it was started. It would be a shame that it would be closed because some cannot stay on topic. I think that if you close it and we opened another one to replace it, it would not be long before the same problem sprouted up. The problem is not the thread.

This is a thread about monster fires in California. It is not about politics. It is also not about Global Warming. Might I suggest opening a thread based on those two concepts and run with it. Hopefully we can keep this thread going so that all may be informed by eyes on the scene and other good information shared in this tradegy.

Our hearts and prayers go out to all who are affected by this awful event and wish them only the best possible outcome.

I think it was obvious what LaL meant. Use this as a support and update thread and keep everything else pretty much out of it. Quite simple. ;) These wildfires are appalling and if we can use this thread to keep in touch with Californian VJers who might be, or are, affected then so much the better.

Sorry to say, but wild fires dont cause nose bleeds or anything else! Fires are a normal occurance in nature! In this case there are houses in the way. California is just payin the piper here! After many years of fire suppression the dues are bein paid. It will all be okay in a couple of months. I truly sympathize with you all down there but things will be fine! Just give it time and dont get caught up in the media bull! Here are some pics that we experience here every year!

I have a friend whose husband is the chief of the fire department right where those fires were. Brave man, he was out on the front line for that one.

oddly enough, this one looks pretty much like the area out back that was on fire about 1.5 years ago - a controlled burn that became an uncontrolled burn and covered over 5 miles in length. i rounded up the water hoses, splitters, and sprinklers and prepared for battle, but the fire department had it out before it crossed the creek.

Yes, this is what I meant. Just add in that it also takes two to tango, majority or not.

Right on Mags! That man deserves a medal! The complaints about nose bleeds and headaches. Biotchin about goverment assistance from some really gets me. Give that guy a message for me. Tell him "THANKS SO MUCH!"

umm, it is not the fires themselves that are causing the headaches and the nosebleeds but the smoke and the lack of moisture in the air... if you are not here you don't know what it is like

there are actually 10 to 12 major fires going on now...

and in San Diego about 1000 or more homes have been lost...

my hubby says he doesn't remember a fire being this bad before....

Being the CURE is always better than being the symptom!
