I'm not sure how Ghana works but I'm still waiting for my husband to get the Christmas present I sent him via USPS.. oh did I mention it was Christmas 2004 (sent Nov 2004).

That will happen in Ghana too, but mostly if it's a box then it's obvious that it could have something that people want to steal. I send those through FedEx or DHL now. I've never used UPS. I sent a box through USPS to Bassi one time, mostly because it was stuff for some of the kids there that I love my soon, to be nephew who is 8, my 12 year old neice who thinks she's grown and the newest baby.....I knew if the stuff got stolen it wasn't very expensive. It was just an "I'm thinking of you package" and I think there were chocolates and cards for Bassi and Mama and Baba. Anywhoo, after a month, Bassi went to customs in Accra Central and there was his box waiting for him, supposedly unclaimed.....though they never notified him that they were holding it. That's Ghana for you....good God-fearing people getting tested by packages coming from abroad. But to just mail a card or paperwork, no problem. I guess they know no one is stupid enough to put cash in a card anymore. I don't even do that in the US.

is there any one who can advise on how you make sure that mail is delivered to the spouse

in Accra Ghan , West Africa as there mail system is not secure ....I am working on the K-3 process

and just want addvise so I can make sure she receives all packages ???? any advice can help ???

Thanks

Greg

I know this message come a little late but, I thought I'd still share it with you. I have used the USPS to mail a card to my fiance, the following day I mailed a letter to him. Needless to say, the letter I mailed a day after the card made it but the card did not. The mail system in Ghana is not that secure. If it looks like money or something else of value is in that letter or package, there is a higher likelihood that it will be opened.

I have received a package from my fiance that was opened that taped back. He as received mail from out of the country that was tampered with.

If what you are sending is very important I would send it by DHL, UPS, FedEx....etc. You can use USPS if you are sending it as secured mail (I think they end up using FedEx or one of those other companies for secured international deliveries anyway)

Oh and just so you know, I believe DHL is the only one of these companies that have some sort of main office in Accra, as was told to me by my fiance...You can ask around about that.

WOW! Yeah sending mail to Nigeria is kinda sketchy. I usually send my fiance stuff through people who take trips to Nigeria. But I need to send him something for his bday in November...thinking of using DHL...i'm still nervous about that though.

DHL is pretty safe
