Help!

So we received a letter in the mail from USCIS saying that we need to send more information. I know that you just have to follow what they ask for with the request letter back to the address. However, what they are asking for is something that we sent in the original packet and I know this because we made copies of everything we sent. They are asking for a copy (not original) of his passport with an english translation. My question is why would they request something they already have? Also is there a number to call them at to make sure this is the correct thing they need? Guess there is not much to do but follow the request, but really stinks that this will affect his entire process when we already did things right the first time. Any ideas would be appreciated.

This happened to us except they were missing my husband's medical exam, which would have been quite difficult to recreate. What the USCIS told my cogressman's office was that every applicant gets two folders, and apparently my husbands medical exam was in the "other" folder. They found it pretty quickly with some prodding from the congressman. I guess unless they have to look its just easier for them to issue an RFE So that is about the best explanation I can give you.

It does suck and is unfair that you follow the rules and still get slowed down, but if you just mail in a copy of the passport they should get back to processing your case quickly. This is a lot easier than contacting them and trying to have them find it.

You're not the only one... When I received the RFE, I thought, "what the...? I already submitted this." But of course, I responded and sent back whatever they wanted (again) just so they could continue processing my case. The quicker you'll respond, the faster they will get what they've requested and resume looking on your case. No use of calling...

Thanks all for your replies. I guess just needed to vent a bit. We will most likely mail that off today if at all possible as we are going for biometrics shortly. Thanks!
