pride for the English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish

and the Cornish, darn it! Why does everyone forget us :crying:

These people don't consider themselves English :no:post-22209-1192892873_thumb.jpg

Ah ha! A fellow Cornish person  (Well, I am not strictly Cornish, but I have lived here for 20 years!) If you speak to all the old boys they are STILL fighting for their independence! I can't see it ever happening though.

Oh c'mon guys....you know Cornwall is just west Wales :o

Ya know... Some English people take offence at being called 'British' too... I don't really see the big deal myself...

Ah ha! A fellow Cornish person good.gif (Well, I am not strictly Cornish, but I have lived here for 20 years!) If you speak to all the old boys they are STILL fighting for their independence! laughing.gif I can't see it ever happening though.

Yes, the most progress they've ever made for Cornish independence is making bumper stickers saying so!

I tried my hand at making pasties again today, it's only my third attempt but they came out horrible :( I will have to wait until my mum comes back over to help me... people don't see what I've been getting upset about. Only a Cornish person would understand that the art of making a (proper!) Cornish pasty is kind of like a rite of passage lol

I have not lived there for about 4 - 5 years after my parents divorced and my mum could not afford another house so we had to leave the county :( Sadly it's a very common story. Not that it matters too much for my future, settling here in Georgia but it was painful at the time.

Where abouts are you to, by the way? I'm from the village of Blackwater, about half an hour from Truro on the A30.

Oh c'mon guys....you know Cornwall is just west Wales

The only thing Cornwall has in common with Wales is the family of the language. Wales definitely wins on that one...it's much more romantic sounding than Cornish is. Do you know what the Cornish word for courage is? .... colon. Says it all really!

I miss it every day though...most of all I miss Tintagel (L)

 at the bumper stickers, that's very true!

I live in St Ives at the moment and have done for the past 2 years... I hate it... It's a beautiful place and all, but I lived in Newquay for 18 years and it is A LOT different here!! Way too quiet and eclectic(!) for me. But, I had to move here because I split from my ex boyfriend and went to America for a month to see my Dad (Which is when I met Chris!) and when I got back I had nowhere to live so I had to move in with my Mum who has since moved to Devon. I am now stuck in the hotel where I work waiting on this flippin visa!!! It was only supposed to be a temporary measure, but this is all taking waaaaaay much longer than we ever expected... But! Hopefully soon!! *Fingers crossed*

I know of Blackwater, I think I have probably driven through it a few times

I know what you mean about not being able to afford anything here... There is absolutely no chance that I could ever get on the property ladder myself, it's ridiculous!! It doesn't make sense to me though, cos the pay is so bad in Cornwall, yet everything else is super expensive!

Pasties... Yes... I have to learn how to make them. I keep telling Chris about them and he wants to try one! When you get the recipe off to a 't'! let me know! I might need some help!

How long have you been in Georgia for? How have you adapted?

Pasties?

They look like pastries to me. And tasty pastries at that. ;)

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995
