Ah, this is funny....our wedding music was very - um - different. Once we even joked about offering our 'compilation' on VJ for like $2 (price of a a burnt CD and postage) for those interested in a REALLY eclectic mix of tunes!

We got married in a hotel suite, so we compiled everything on a disc and my son hit the buttons on a boom box at the proper points.

I walked down the 'aisle' (actually I emerged from the bathroom - LOL) to "Londonderry Aire" ie Danny Boy - a beautiful version, no words, played on uilean pipes.

After the ceremony, the boombox blared out "The Best of Times" by Styx - but it was a version for marching bands! My son is big-time into his high school band and is going to be a music major in college. "Best of Times" was part of their field show last fall, and we thought it would be a cool 'recessional'.

The rest of the CD, played in the suite while everybody mingled, goes like this:

Here's a Health To the Company - Chieftains - an irish wedding accapella toast

At Last - Ella Fitzgerald

White Rabbit - a marching version of Jefferson Airplane tune - also the tattoo on my right shoulder

Coolin Medley - Cheiftains

Here Comes the Sun - Lennon

Celtic Wedding - Cheiftains

The Chain - Fleetwood Mac - our song cause it was on the radio all the time his first visit to me

Hey Baby - tubas only

White Rabbit - the Airplane version

Mack the Knife - Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis

I Can Dream About You - Dan Hartmann

Tusk - Fleetwood Mac with the Trojan Marching Band (USC)

Sleep Like a Child - Joss Stone

Weird, huh?

I LOVE when people do non-traditional stuff. If I ever decide on a music list  , our's will probably be just as mixed.

I didn't walk down the aisle so no music there. My hubby and I are both very into metal and we wanted the guests to hear some great bands from my home country at the wedding party...Apocalyptica and Nightwish were at the top of the list. Apocalyptica has some really beautiful songs, classical with cellos yet metal. Our wedding song (that we danced to) was Metallica's Nothing else matters... :)

:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

our first dance was "Stand by me", the oldie of course...and I also danced with my dad to the oldie "My Girl", he picked it. He's a sweet dad.

Those are some great songs! "My Girl" is probably the sweetest song you could have picked for the bride/ bride's father dance. I bet I would have cried.

My vegas wedding I'm considering Walk The Line by Johnny Cash, La-La-Love You by the Pixies and Rainy Night in Soho by the Pogues

Walk the line!!!!! Love this!!!!! My Jonnie would love this selection too.

As for our wedding we have been discussing music alot, we both listen to different music. My fiance is from jamaica but he does not like raggea (weird huh?) but I do... He listens to mostly christian music, which I like but I mostly like R&B, hip hop and gospel....

I am white and he is black but he listens to more "white" artists then I do :whistle:

But for the ceremony we will have a violinist so it will be traditional wedding music...and for the reception it will be a mix of all kids of music and the DJ will play what ever gets our guests on the dance floor

... our 1st song will be "Spend my life with you" by Eric Benet (R&B)

I walked down the aisle the first time during our small ceremony to Led Zeppelin's "Thank You" (because way back when we started dating and were on opposite sides of the pond, he went to go see a LZ cover band, and during that song he drunk-texted me to tell me how much he loved me!) and we recessed to "All I Ask Of You" from Phantom of the Opera.

This time, when we do it all big-style, we haven't decided on the music but it will be classical and probably traditional to enter and exit. Nightwish is a good idea, though! I doubt the church would let us get away with it. Our first dance is going to be a country song, since I have good ol' country roots, Kenney Chesney's "Anything But Mine", which again holds significance to our early relationship.

Must remember to add Nightwish to the playlist, though.
