I wish.. no, I was just wonderign what's wrong with eatting tuna from a can, I do that all the time (30g of protein :thumbs: ), so by removing it from the can and eatting is ok, but eatting from the can isn't?

It's just the mercury/metal that is already in the fish - canned or not - although tuna being the generally large fish that it is seems to have a higher concentration - there is an article here: Link

You're pregnant!? What did I miss...

No, it's the tuna itself, canned or not - if you're pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or nursing, it's recommended that you eat no more than 12 oz. of tuna per week and that you avoid shark, swordfish, king mackerel, and tilefish (which sucks, as my dad grills a mean king mackerel steak). Also, albacore (white) tuna has higher mercury levels so should be kept to six ounces per week.

I don't know how they come up with this stuff. I have a really hard time believing that tuna will kill your baby. But being the perfectionist I am, if I'm ever pregnant I'm sure I'll be eating OBGYN-approved macrobiotic sludge, so who am I to comment.

Many cans are sealed with solder (mix of tin/lead). If you happen to take part of the contents of the can and leave the rest in the open can, the lead can seep into it--of course, does not apply if you take the entire contents at one shot.

FUD, I challenge anyone to find a lead soldered can. If you do, put it on Ebay as a civil war relic or something. Cans are not sealed with lead solder. Unless the can is from China, then all bets are off!

I buy canned tuna for my cats. I would hate to think I am poisoning them. But then again, there is probably a lot of poison in canned cat food, too.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

Wonderful

I remember sleeping in the back window of the car on long trips (lying on that back shelf in our monster blue Dodge) or on the floor with my head on the "hump" (it got hot down there). If we actually sat in the back seat and fell asleep with our head against the door, my mom would ask us to lean against a pillow in case we got in an accident. Eventually, my mom got some kind of harness and leash contraption (the straps and leash were seatbelt material) to attach to the back seat so we wouldn't go flying too far in case of a sudden stop. When I was born, I rode home from the hospital cradled in my mom's arms in the front seat.

I didn't and still can't play video games. We played on metal monkey bars (that rusted). We made fallen trees into airplanes. We made berries of questionable toxicity into stew. We made South Carolina red clay into bricks and built small houses with them. I caught buckets full of gigantic central Alabama grasshoppers, black with red racing stripes down their backs. We went camping A LOT in a 1967 Apache Mesa canvas-sided popup camper that my husband can't fathom why I still have. We took umpteen showers in state park facilities wearing squeaky rubber flipflops and inhaling the Lysol fumes after my mom had coated the walls and floor with enough chemical to fell an elephant. If there was a freak snowstorm, we slid down the hill, on the street, on a piece of sheet metal with sharp corners.

There wasn't much soccer at all (that's for you, Hubby :o:lol: ) although we'd heard of some guy named Pele. Our unit of time measurement for long car trips was a "Sesame Street" (there was a new episode each weekday, and they ran the previous five back-to-back on Saturday mornings). Female cartoon characters were sorta geeky, didn't expose their midriffs, and didn't have the bodies of 24-year-olds with mega-implants. We learned classical music by watching Bugs Bunny. We avoided cartoons where everyone except the speaker or principal actor in a scene froze, no matter what they were doing. Mister Rogers was my hero. I wondered what I had to do to make 15,000 ping pong balls fall from the sky. My mom lined up low tables and shelves in front of the television so we couldn't get close enough to sit on the floor bathed in "radiation." Microwaves didn't exist. Our first VCR was a huge top-loader. Its remote control had a cord.

My first computer chat was line-by-line over Bitnet from a mainframe computer at school using an algae-green monitor, no Windows, no graphics, no voice or music or cam (although some folks took the time to create and send ascii pictures and profiles to each other). You could watch your "instant" message pass from link to link to its destination. If a link was down, you could reroute your message if you knew how. A simple "hi, how are ya" exchange could take a half an hour. I once had a two-hour chat with a friend in Norway using a Deckwriter (a clunky printer and keyboard with no screen at all).

Thanks for the nostalgia. I'm still living the best years of my life right now, and I wouldn't trade them, even to go back. :luv:
