Thank you for your reply. Yes, I do have other forms of communication from her but I was under the impression that e-mail has the most weight for approval. I like the engagement ring to the interview idea. If they need more than one e-mail per month, than I will stress to my girl to reply more often. Your point raises an interesting question. Would submitting sporatic e-mails or 8 of my e-mails to one of hers, making our case worse, I wonder?

Noll, I think email is important but it's not as important as you think it is. Emails can be faked.

Pictures of the two of you together that are dated, passport stamps, boarding passes, phone records from your phone company showing the number which is being called, or text messages, Letters mailed to each other with the stamp mark on them, etc. These are the types of things they are looking for.

Having to coach your girlfriend in to emailing you...again, I find odd.

I understand you are afraid of being denied but like I've said, if it is a bona fide relationship and you have been in contact with her daily in some way that you can show...you'll be fine.

Relax.

Thanks for the good luck wishes. It's not so bizarre actually. I have not asked her yet if she would like to come to the US to be with me. When I do, I can talk to her about the process and tell her what they look for in the number of e-mails. Most girls are not going to write a lot to one man until they are falling love with him, especially if they don't have their own computer and they struggle with English. This is where I am at in the process. But it looks as though no one has been denied because of too few e-mails. So I am less concerned about it now. Who are these lucky guys that actually have their girls write frequently to them?

All the best to you as well.

Noll....

I'm sorry but I find this so bizarre. Why you are needing to coach your girlfriend in to writing you more is beyond me. If you have communication on a regular basis, telephone, email, instant chatting online, letters, etc. you should be fine.

The fact that you are saying you actually have to ask for emails is a little strange.

Best of luck though.

Wow..ok...now that I know your full situation I guess I see where you are coming from.

...I don't quite know what to say.

I write my boyfriend daily, we text message non-stop, email, voice and web cam chat and talk on the phone...all...the...time.

I wish you much luck with the girl in your life and I hope that both of you can discover this journey together.

Oh and I should say...one of the main requirements of the K-1 Fiance visa is that you have met in person in the last 2 years..If you haven't met her in person yet, I suggest you work on that first before considering this option.....

Yeah, if we're not on Messenger, we're on the phone or webcam, or sometimes both at the same time! We actually fall asleep on the phone! I know it sounds ridiculous but that way it's like we're spending time together and if I wake up in the middle of the night from a nightmare I can wake him up and he's there for me. (That's happened more than once!)

I couldn't imagine not talking every single day! He's the person I want to tell everything to, and share everything with. Heck, sometimes we don't even talk. Just listening to him breathe and knowing that he's there is enough for me.

I agree with Laura though. If you haven't met her in person yet, that's the first thing to do. Don't even worry about emails if this requirement hasn't been met! We didn't submit emails actually or any written correspondence. We showed boarding passes, passport stamps, pictures of us together, and phone bills.

we didn't submit any chat/email copies at all.. my man is just not the type of person who likes to write.. we have very few email exchanges and very few of them are romantic.. we hang on messenger every day too but still -not much of the chat record shows much ongoing relationship.. since i have an american number bought from Skyp In service.. we are on the phone for hours every day.. i hope the phone record can replace the email/chat records.. although the phone records only show his calling to an american number... wonder if that would be a problem.. i did attach a printed copy from my skype account page showing that american number is tied to my email address and forwarded to my chinese cell number.. hope the officers understand how such phone service works!

Meet her in person and see if the shoe fits before you waste your and others time.

If it fits both ways you won't have to worry about not having enuf emails or anything else for that matter.

That will be automatic!

Thanks Dan + Gemvita. This is a reassuring reply. We are somewhat early in our relationship. We exchange text messages and talk on the phone, and very sporadic e-mail (for every one of my 6 letters I may get one reply). Plus, we have met in Kiev this September. The reason I became worried about the e-mail scenario was after a consultation session with an attorney who strongly suggested at least two e-mails from her per week. I have a better chance to make it across the Atlantic in a canoe than to get her to reply twice per week. If I tell her they need more e-mail to approve her visa, then she will be motivated to write more, maybe twice per month, and we should be okay.

Noll

?

My fiancee and I hardly use email as a form of communication. Instead we use IM and VoIP. If you have other evidence, you should be fine. Everyone is unique, and we each use different ways of communication.

E-mail is only one piece of the picture. How heavily it will be weighted will probably depend on what other proofs you are bringing...phone records, proof of trips, etc. If that is you only proof, you might be in trouble if you only have a few e-mails. However, this is also completely arbitrary, dependant largely upon what Consulate you're going through and what the actual interviewer makes of the situation.

Thank you Gwen666 for this insight. So, from what you are describing, it sounds like most people make it to the interview stage even if their e-mail exchange was dismal. It sounds like it is at the interview stage where they make the ultimate decision. If I have a ring on her finger that should be convincing enough? The problem is, I can't get my girl to write e-mail more than once a month, if I am lucky.

Everything depends on the whole picture, noll. A ring alone doesn't prove you have a relationship; it proves you bought a ring. A phone record doesn't prove anything beyond a phone call. &c, &c. But when you put the whole picture together, you see a couple that talks a lot on the phone and an engagement ring.

E-mails are good proof of communication, but they're not necessary to being approved. We had no e-mails but a decent amount of phone logs showing that we talked every night. Why? Because I thought e-mails were kind of dumb when chances are he'd call before he had a chance to read an e-mail. If I had printed most of our e-mails, they would have said 'love you babe will be home a little late call at 10 instead of 8.'

You can check the regional forums for advice more specific to your consulate in terms of advice and what the officers like to see. But take a deep breath.

All you can do is represent your case as best as you can. If she's not e-mailing you, then make sure you document your other froms of communication. letters, visits, chats.

My husbands interview was focused on our e-mails. It was random, you never really can tell. i think they looked at our e-mails because our paperwork was meticulous and well organized. Funny thing was we had a ton of phone cards (no printed records of the actual numbers dialed) and we had a ton of e-mails. I thought it would be best to just send 1-2 emails for every month we'd been together. My husband insisted on printing EVERY e-mail we'd ever sent. I thought it was unecessary. But he thought it was better to be safe than sorry. He was right! In the end his interview consisted of 5 or 6 questions. All but one came from the interviewer randomly combing through our e-mails and asking questions. I never would have guessed it. But thats our story.

Just relax and make the best presentation of the true nature or your relationship.

Phone records are a tough one for us for the simple fact my fiancee and myslef both have PC/laptop's and internet at our respective residences and use "Google Talk" (voice chat program). We talk on a almost daily basis and never pay a long distance bill....we only pay our standard internet bill. Why call or type to each other when we can "talk to each other" is our motto. But we do type "hello" to each other everytime we call, so we have something to take a "Printscreen" of for the INS.

Google Talk, for those of you have never heard of it, or tried it, give it a try. A person can be on 56k, and come across the headset clear as a bell half way across the world with this program. And if your fiancee cannot afford internet at her home....well then get it for her. It's a small price to pay for being able to conversate with her.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I agree with the post above. Every situation is different. Let's be realistic here: the consulate is likely not to put too much weight on emails or even IM logs, since electronic records can be so easily fabricated. Letters/cards/packages to and from each other with appropriate postmarks are much better. The vital things include evidence of visits. The more visits and the more conclusive evidence you have (eg. airline tickets, boarding passes, hotel receipts, credit card statements, passport stamps), the better. If you have physical evidence such as an engagement ring and can include a receipt, that also helps. I wouldnt necessarily disagree with the previous post that the more evidence, the better, but make sure if you send your fiancee to the consulate with a BOX, then put the most important evidence on top, that way the officer doesnt have to dig through everything.
