Illegal? Or etiquette?

Being illegal is one thing. Respect as just a tiny bit to do with it also. Of course some people dont get it.

They mentioned illegality in the clip. Is that right? I found a site on flag etiquette, but I'm wondering whether it is also illegal.

I don't know about the illegality of flying another flag over the american flag but I know for a fact that damaging and then stealing another person's property is against the law.

If this aired on the news there and the american man who was caught on camera damaging that shop owners property and then stealing his flag was not arrested and prosecuted there is something seriously wrong with this.

Rolling that "sacred" symbol into a ball... that's showing some great respect there.....idiot! I guess he should be hailed as a flag vigilante

The United States Flag Code establishes advisory rules for display and care of the flag of the United States. It is title 4 of the United States Code: 4 U.S.C. § 1 et seq. This is a U.S. federal law, but there is no penalty for failure to comply with them and they are not widely enforced — indeed, punitive enforcement would conflict with the First Amendment right to freedom of speech, as the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled when the subject has come up in the past. (The Flag Desecration Amendment that has been proposed from time to time would override Supreme Court rulings on the matter.)

This etiquette is as applied within U.S. jurisdiction. In other countries and places, local etiquette applies.

OK. I'm confused. It is illegal. But it is not widely enforced. And there's no punishment anyway. So it's like one of those ice cream cone laws, then?

The Reno police department has told krnv that Brossert will faces charges for theft if the store owner files a police report of what happened.

If he is charged, he should ask for a jury trial. I think his chances of conviction in that case would be quite low.
