I'm still semi-aggravated about last night <_< but I'm trying to shrug it off and look at the beautiful weather outside. Spring is heeeeeeeeeeere ^_^

edit: !!!!!!!!

Why? what happened last night? Do tell !!!!!!!!!!!!!

While Bee was steadily toiling away at work tonight, my in-laws decided to invite over for dinner their best friend's daughter who'd recently been in England for the past six months. Severely awkward and stressful for me, considering that she used to date Bee, and is considered with the in-laws to be the daughter that they never got to have.

That's terrible Nini, very poor judgement on their part(s). <shakes head>

Nini, they're beyond rude  . Oh man, they should not only be happy that they have YOU, but even happier they don't have ME as a daughter in law, because believe me, there would have been no effing dinner - or at least not with me at the table.

If homicide is the answer, you have our number ;)

If I had super powers I would invisibilize the tax threads. Every time I see one I break out into a cold sweat. :help:

Sister, if I had those powers I would invisibilize some members

*GULP*I can think of at least one. :innocent: Nepotism only goes so far..... :crying::lol:

was the dinner awful??

 As in the menu, preparation, and presentation?

Nini, if it happens again let us know. We will gladly provide helpful suggestions. I, personally, would use the opportunity to be as sweet as pie while making veiled evil digs that will keep them guessing. Just remember.... chuckling out loud is forbidden. Well, okay. Maybe one or two. Just enough to startle them. ^_^

Hey! No fair! You added that second bit while I was typing, Liz.

Nini, I don't mean to meddle (who me? :innocent: ) but I'm with my Sister (for once  ) and Liz and Crikey! and Cattattude and just about evryone else in the known universe. Umbrage? Sh*t, how else is a wife to take it when they invite a former girlfriend/fiancee over for dinner. Sending a message methinks. :crying: I'm sure you handled the situation with class and dignity (not stabbing someone in the eye like my Sister might do). When you get out to the Pacific it will get better, hang in there. Of course, maybe the in-laws are so proud of their DIL that they can't help but show her off. Yeah, that's the ticket, they're showing off their China Doll of a DIL.*looks outside the window to see if the Easter bunny has come* :innocent:

BTW, if this should happen again, the delicacy for the evening will be oleander pie. A Southern delicacy that is best served (very) cold.

Oh, where do I even start. I'm sorry, I just have to tell the entire story now <_<

So my MIL invited Julia (the aforementioned ex) over so that they could visit and talk about her stay in the "foreign country". She was in England on exchange with the LSE for the year. If that wasn't intimidating enough, my in-laws think the sun falls and rises with her. It wouldn't have been as bad as it was if they'd also invited the rest of her family over (with whom they're extremely close with), but... yeah, it was just her. Oh, and Bee's brother and his wife and daughter also came over. Bee's bro went upstairs to play at my FIL's new computer, so I was stuck downstairs with the girls trying not to look or feel out of place.

Dinner was Chinese take-out, and if you know me, I cringe at the Chinese takeout that my in-laws like to order. My gastronomical senses were severely offended by the butchering of my country's food  So I sat there pretending to be completely fascinated by my food, trying not to feel awkward about the whole situation (which I very much did).

I really did try to give it a chance, but... there really was nothing I could talk about during the entire conversation. At one point my whole immigration situation was brought up, and my in-laws were like, "Well Nini can't really work right now" and I was like "...well actually I'm getting my work card soon," and everyone was like "Oh, that's great." Then went back to discussing how the lifts in England were very annoying.

It was a night where pretty much every insecurity I had about myself was magnified... I don't know if that makes sense or not  And I felt like I should've sucked it up because Bee's family is very close to Julia's and we will see them again and again and again. I don't think it's a lack of tact on my in-laws' part, it's just the nature of their longstanding and close relationship with her family's. Compared to other things, this is really something very little to complain about, but... *sigh* Certainly made me feel pretty icky.

At the end of the night when Bee came home from work, we went out to the local bar with Bee's best friend who was in town from NYC. Having known the situation I'd been in (and him not caring for the ex at all), Bee's BFF kindly offered comfort food, then let me vent for a bit, and then kept me entertained for the rest of the night. Now that's friendship :D

Nini - Vancouver BC, Canada (she's the one who does the forum thing)

Bee - Devon PA, USA (he's the one who gave her the shiny ring)

LSE eh??? Pop's alma mater? Sounds like the standards have really dropped or there's bound to be a loser in every class. Does this Juila still have feelings for Bee? Is she one of those, I did this and I did that types? I hate those scumbags, makes me feel sad that I invented the human circulatory system in the first place. I think the BIL may have had adverse feeling towards you (or more likely Julia) so he bailed. The BFF sounds like a real mensch though. Vent all you want here, Julia can't beat you when it comes to shiksappeal.
