Ouch, I know how you feel when it comes to breaking a tooth. I had the same problem about 6 months ago. It was a rotting molar that split in 1/2 and I had to wait about 3 weeks to get it fixed. Advil was my best friend back then lol.

While I'm in the venting forum, I might as well express my frustration towards my mother. Now see, I still live at home with her with my son. She's known about this whole visa process for a long time now. Hell, shes known about my fiancee ever since we started dating. So shes had a good 4 years to let all this sink in. Well, shes expressed her "feelings" towards me leaving. She wants me to leave after Christmas, that way we can have 1 last Christmas together. I understand all that BUT, I wanted to move before Thanksgiving. That way I can get my son into school the start of the new year. He'll have to take a school bus, so that will take some time getting a spot on the bus. I also want to be able to get a job before all the highschool and college kids get out for the summer. Granted I get my EAD before then. I've let her know all this, but she still doesn't understand it. She tried saying to me that we didn't spend last Christmas together, but shes forgot that we did, we just had it 2 weeks early. Theres no reason why she can't come down to see us for the holidays, or afterwards. I'd like for her to be at our wedding, but I don't see it happening. My mom is married to this awful guy who doesn't help her with the bills at all, even though he has a pretty good paying job. He just drinks his pay checks away. When I talked to my MIL about all this, she thinks that my mom is just being selfish and wants me to stay, that way she doesnt have to deal with my stepdad about the money issue. They've been married for 16 years and I don't ever see my mother putting her foot down with my stepdad after all this time. My mom has tried to make me out to be the bad guy with all this and make me look like the selfish one.

Why should I put my life on hold because she has a deadbeat husband? It just frustrates me that shes acting like this. Shes known for so long I was eventually going to leave, but she just can't grasp the concept that we'll be gone in 2 weeks.

Has anyone else had to go through this with their family?

Mary

I haven't had to deal with your exact situation, but I lived with my mother too along with my son.

She too had about the same amount of time to let it all sink in. But when it came time for the actual process to really begin she didn't deal with it well. She even went so far as to throw out important mail from the consulate and everything. Which is my process took longer than normal.

It really isn't your problem, this is your new life and you do need to get on with it like you said. They never do grasp it I dont think...until you're actually gone then it sinks in.

I posted this is off topic but I am going to post it again here :P

arrrgghh, I am so mad....

I want to start off by saying that we have car insurance through this company in Arizona but we go through a underwriter that is local here....

earlier last month, we got a letter from our insurance company saying that our insurance was coming up due and that we needed to pay them $90 to renew our insurance which I was going to do towards the end of the month after hubby got paid...

Anywho, a week or so later I got a call from the underwriter saying that we needed to come in and pay $180 to renew our insurance... I told her that we got this letter from the insurance company saying we only needed to pay $90 but she said that didn't include their underwriting fee :P

So, we went in on the 18th and paid for the renewal and got a receipt and everything... and the transaction cleared our bank etc...

Well, yesterday we get a letter from our insurance company saying that as of October 28th they canceled our policy :o

so I am guessing the underwriter neglected to send in the necessary stuff to renew our policy  I plan on calling them later this morning to see what is going on...

they did something like this when we first got insurance through them... they were supposed to send in pictures of the car and they did take the pictures but then we get a letter from the insurance company that they needed the pictures or the insurance wouldn't go through....

what exactly our we paying for with this stupid underwriting fee??:angry:

car insurance etc.. is so much easier to deal with in Canada... you just go to one place and you get insurance , plates etc....

Go with a direct to consumer insurance company like Geico or Progressive. No middle man but then of course more hassles if you need to file a claim.

Wiz

I think we will stick with what we got.. it is only $90 a month and that is for full coverage and if we get another car they say it will only be an extra $30

anywho, I got the problem solved ... although it seems like there was no problem after all ..

I called our underwriter and they said our policy was still active :P I told them about the letter and they said the check and the letter probably crossed paths in the mail... yeah right... we were in on the 18th and the the policy expired on the 28th...

I did call the insurance company to to double check and they confirmed that our policy was still active .. I told them about the letter and the said the policy did expire but it was renewed again...

then it got me to thinking that maybe that letter is just to let us know that our last policy has expired  but why scare a person like that...

Sorry you had to go through all that with your mother. I'm glad my mom didn't go that far. To me, it seems like she probably thought this relationship I have was never going to work out because we live so far away from eachother. She needs to get with the times lol. Whoever came up with the whole quote that women fall in love with men who are like their fathers was completely wrong. Also, that we're like our mothers? WAYYY WRONG lol.

My entire family thought the same thing.

It was almost like i was single with them.

"Oh Nevada, we have this man we'd like you to meet"

'Err guys I am in a relationship.'

"Oh you call that a relationship? You guys live in different countries!"

Its hard for people to grasp it, especially older people who don't understand the power of the internet and communications in general today. They just think its a phase. Until we get that VISA and have one foot out the door, then they decide to hit the panic button.

I totally empathize with that kind of situation. Early in our relationship, my family treated Bee like he was a joke - "Oh, your foreign boyfriend! Hahaha." When they heard that I was applying for a visa to move down to the US, that's when they knew it was serious.

My mother would go so far as to tell me about her friends who were sneering at her - "Everyone asks me why you couldn't find anyone in this city to date!" Sadly her own marriage was horrible enough that she couldn't understand the concept of marrying for love. :( She got really clingy and everyone said I was "abandoning" the family. It got to the point where I thought that they'd sabotage The Envelope, and I started hiding it under my mattress! Sad I know, but...

Luckily she's gotten a lot better since then. But jeez, my family is a little crazy when I think about it.

Ok, so I started the 1st half of the getting a crown on one of my molars today. I had a root canal done some years ago and that was a cake walk compared to this. OW! I want to eat and drink again someday. I like food. I miss food. I like cold drinks. I miss cold drinks.

Good news is, my out of pocket is going to be $300 or so. Yep, that is good news considering the whole price is almost $700.

I can't stand Sales & Marketing people.. they seem to be all the same.. demanding, self centered and VERY disorganized when it comes to logistics. It's 4:45pm.. i've waited ALLLLL day to get the flipping package contents and the addresses to ship the marketing materials out for this week's meetings.. WHY do they leave it this late in the day? Why do they change their minds when I get the boxes packed, and the weigh bills on? What part of PLAN AHEAD do these guys not understand?

I'm not sure whether it's only throughout the state, but we've been getting those recorded automated "VOTE 4 MEEEEEEEE!" calls all day at the house, and it's driving me cruckingfazy. Seriously, I don't remember getting this level of political harassment back in Vancouver. :(

Because there's not a lot of swinging in Vancouver. Not to mention most Canadians don't care about politics.
