Len is so right.

Just my own experience, I too have a child that was quiteeee busy in his younger years. ADD wasn't a hot topic at that point, plus his early school years were all in New Zealand, which probably helped! and there was never a consideration or suggestion to drug him (I'm with you on this one by the way!).

Funny thing is, as he was my first and only child and as ADD wasn't a hot topic, it never crossed my mind to 'treat' him for - whatever. It is just the way he was and that was that (which I'm sure was the experience of millions of moms and dads prior to the ADD discussion).

Anyway, he got through school and he's a happy person and he is still very energetic - I think it would be wonderful to have that amount of energy.

Good luck with your MIL - keep on keeping on

Like Len and trailmix, I agree - your son is your son, and no one else should tell you how to raise them. I agree that ADD is one of the most misdiagnosed disorders out there. Personally I'm against the "medicate people until they're stuffed with drugs" route and clash with my own quasi-hypochondriac MiL a lot. I totally know where you're coming from! She is the sweetest woman, but she is the biggest worrywart I've ever met.

Last week Bee's niece, who is almost three, was limping around and they thought she might have minorly sprained her ankle. My sister-in-law and Bee's brother were pretty worried, but they didn't want to put her through the trauma of the ER. Since the niece has seen a lot of the hospital already (she was a micro-preemie), they wanted to wait until after the weekend to see the pediatrician.

When we went to visit the in-laws and take the load off the worrying parents, MiL went wacko. She demanded that they take their daughter to the ER, despite everyone telling her that it would seriously freak the baby out. Then she asked whether the pediatrician had x-rays. She called them every day demanding to know what the status was. I can only imagine how my in-laws felt between worrying over their daughter and being chided by their mother for poor parenting.

Turns out it wasn't the ankle, it's Lyme disease. You can imagine what kind of hullaboo I've been living with since then. ^_^

Yea we're just having issues, and they've only started recently.

We have to deal, because we are all under one roof but like you guys said, he is my child, and I don't plan on medicating him and I dont think he's ADD. His own teacher disagreed with her. I think his teacher would know these things. She had both of her children diagnosed as ADD. I took her to a parent/teacher conference because Mike had to work and he would say: "Well Ethan doesn't like to read" and she'd say: "Thats a sign of ADD" and then he'd say: "Well Ethan loves to talk" and she would say: "Thats a sign of ADD"

Hmm I would think that its a sign of a child. But thats just me. I am no expert...just merely the childs parent.

My mother is back in Canada having a conniption because she hates what is going on down here and that this woman is trying to diagnose him. Its a little difficult.

We'll deal.

I know you have to deal babeee; but boundaries make happy relationships ;) --- you're a strong woman, so I don't worry... maybe I should worry about MIL suffering an accident... (kidding).

As per diagnosing ANYONE with ANYTHING (with all due respect to teachers), only a physician is able. And when it comes to any kind of behavioural issues, only a psychiatrist (or a psychologist, if you like them) can/should diagnose. Then again, that's just my not-humble opinion. And it caused me a lot of freaking grief amongst colleagues in my Faculty (Education= we know/diagnose it all); but I stand my ground.

Love y'all.

oh I know, thats why I think its unethical she is doing this.

Mike said today that she isn't happy until everyone in the world has some sort of neurological disorder and is on meds. She stands by her meds. But what is good for the goose isn't good for the gander.

Thank you all so much. This venting place really does make you feel a whole lot better.

I feel like I am in one of those kleenix commercials with the therapist and the couch in the middle of the street.

I just broke one of my molars in half. Fortunately, it doesn't hurt (yet), but the piece that is left is sharp enough to do major damage to my tongue. I have insurance but no $$ until payday one week from now to do anything about it.

My husband is being a jerk. My inlaws are the biggest and oldest children on this planet. I can't even begin to communicate the drama they present in my life.

I can't imagine what breaking a tooth feels like.

They seem to have a few products in this line: http://www.dentekoralcare.com/browse_by_ca...tal_repair.html

Ouch! I'm so sorry to hear about your tooth! Do you have a regular dentist? My dentist would take me now, and just have me pay her on payday or something. Doesn't hurt to ask!

Ouch, I know how you feel when it comes to breaking a tooth. I had the same problem about 6 months ago. It was a rotting molar that split in 1/2 and I had to wait about 3 weeks to get it fixed. Advil was my best friend back then lol.

While I'm in the venting forum, I might as well express my frustration towards my mother. Now see, I still live at home with her with my son. She's known about this whole visa process for a long time now. Hell, shes known about my fiancee ever since we started dating. So shes had a good 4 years to let all this sink in. Well, shes expressed her "feelings" towards me leaving. She wants me to leave after Christmas, that way we can have 1 last Christmas together. I understand all that BUT, I wanted to move before Thanksgiving. That way I can get my son into school the start of the new year. He'll have to take a school bus, so that will take some time getting a spot on the bus. I also want to be able to get a job before all the highschool and college kids get out for the summer. Granted I get my EAD before then. I've let her know all this, but she still doesn't understand it. She tried saying to me that we didn't spend last Christmas together, but shes forgot that we did, we just had it 2 weeks early. Theres no reason why she can't come down to see us for the holidays, or afterwards. I'd like for her to be at our wedding, but I don't see it happening. My mom is married to this awful guy who doesn't help her with the bills at all, even though he has a pretty good paying job. He just drinks his pay checks away. When I talked to my MIL about all this, she thinks that my mom is just being selfish and wants me to stay, that way she doesnt have to deal with my stepdad about the money issue. They've been married for 16 years and I don't ever see my mother putting her foot down with my stepdad after all this time. My mom has tried to make me out to be the bad guy with all this and make me look like the selfish one.

Why should I put my life on hold because she has a deadbeat husband? It just frustrates me that shes acting like this. Shes known for so long I was eventually going to leave, but she just can't grasp the concept that we'll be gone in 2 weeks.

Has anyone else had to go through this with their family?

Mary

I posted this is off topic but I am going to post it again here :P

arrrgghh, I am so mad....

I want to start off by saying that we have car insurance through this company in Arizona but we go through a underwriter that is local here....

earlier last month, we got a letter from our insurance company saying that our insurance was coming up due and that we needed to pay them $90 to renew our insurance which I was going to do towards the end of the month after hubby got paid...

Anywho, a week or so later I got a call from the underwriter saying that we needed to come in and pay $180 to renew our insurance... I told her that we got this letter from the insurance company saying we only needed to pay $90 but she said that didn't include their underwriting fee :P

So, we went in on the 18th and paid for the renewal and got a receipt and everything... and the transaction cleared our bank etc...

Well, yesterday we get a letter from our insurance company saying that as of October 28th they canceled our policy :o

so I am guessing the underwriter neglected to send in the necessary stuff to renew our policy  I plan on calling them later this morning to see what is going on...

they did something like this when we first got insurance through them... they were supposed to send in pictures of the car and they did take the pictures but then we get a letter from the insurance company that they needed the pictures or the insurance wouldn't go through....

what exactly our we paying for with this stupid underwriting fee??:angry:

car insurance etc.. is so much easier to deal with in Canada... you just go to one place and you get insurance , plates etc....

Go with a direct to consumer insurance company like Geico or Progressive. No middle man but then of course more hassles if you need to file a claim.

Hi Mary,

No I haven't, but I hear you. You already know you can't be responsible for someone elses behaviour and HOPEFULLY this will get easier when you do move!

Now my little vent for the day. First of all I don't understand why, if you post something, someone has to come back with a rude, patronising (and wrong I might add) answer? Can they not keep their little fingers off the keyboard? I don't think responses always have to be 'nice', however a tad of respect goes a long way and if you don't have anything constructive to answer what is the gain? In my opinion the gain is they get to vent their venom on someone else, nice way to be there!

Also! I called NVC, our file has now been there 4 months. I'm glad they now have everything they could possibly want and things they probably don't want and eventually they will complete it. The inefficiency of the whole thing is mind boggling.
