Okay I just had to stop beating around the bush and tell my mom not to bring my uncle down.

She asked me: "Okay but how do I break this to him?"

Why did she even have to tell him he could come!?

The good part is, he's not going to come.

The bad part is, now I feel bad.

Its a no-win situation.

ya, but ur feeling bad will be less, than all those awkward situations, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

So true! The last time he came down, my mother suggested we all go out for dinner. So we did. Then we get to the restaurant and we're trying to figure out what we want and I ask my mother: "What do you want to do with the bill?" and she says: "Well I am paying for myself..."

Omg.. I wanted to crawl into a hole and die. There was my uncle and my obese cousin sitting there looking at each other going: "We're broke"

Then my uncle gets all mad at my mom and says: "You shouldn't have brought me here, you know I don't have money" and my mom goes: "I didn't bring you here, you chose to get in the car and come along..." and it went on for a while.

In the end my mom paid for him and said: "I just like giving you a hard time"

I mean WHY DO THAT!?

And this is why I live 500 miles away from these people. :P

My vent for today: The power went out to the entire house for about a half an hour and of course I woke up because my fan that I usually have on during the day while I am sleeping was off! ( I work night shift) So yeah power came back on but do you think I could fall back asleep? NO!!!! Woo hoo! 4 hours of sleep today! Unless I can catch a nap this evening!

But on the upside I got one of my T-4's today! and I have a tax preparer for my Canadian taxes!! Which reminds me still have to send in my darn US taxes soon! Federal I am getting a refund...but state I owed 40 bucks!! GAAAHH!!!

Ah yes Verizon...they SUCK....My fiance just switched to AT&T....he moved due to orders to a new area...where there is actually a choice between Verizon, Alltell and the local phone company (who's cell phone plans only have coverage for about an hour's radius of the previous town/city he used to live in) When I move down I will probably end up getting Cricket or Alltell...I had Alltell prepaid when i lived in the states...I am not much of a talker on the cell phone. A landline will need to be ordered! LOL! I need a good long distance plan to call Canada and not get charged an arm and a leg!!

My vent is now how my mother is planning to bring my uncle down. My uncle never has any money.

She is also expecting me to take a few days off of work and have my son take time off of school. I don't exactly agree with this and this visit wasn't planned like her June visit, she's just expecting me to drop my life because she is coming down. I was going to take a week off in June when she came down, but now she wants me to do it in a few weeks AS WELL.

Then she tells me my uncle is coming down. I like my uncle but the guy never has any money, and then I feel guilty because I want to take my mom somewhere and we have to bring him. So I told my mom yesterday that if she brought him down she'd have to have full financial responsibility of him. I wouldn't want to be put in any awkward situations because I don't appreciate it. The last time he came down for my wedding, there were sooo many awkward situations because the guy doesn't have a cent to his name. I don't even understand why my mother supports him the way she does. He has a 22 year old engaged son who lives with him, who works but pays NO rent at all or helps his parents at all, and then there's my mom buying the entire family groceries for the month. Ugh.

I have a two bedroom apartment I don't even know where he would sleep.

I wish she'd just not bring him down. This visit was unexpected and not planned and I don't feel like dealing with him for 5 days. He doesn't appreciate anything either.

just say no. him coming sounds like too much of an imposition. and tell them charles said so!

hbo sucks. you can get anything on hbo later on via netflix.

Edited by charles!

Ah, hello Vent!

So I'm sick with strep throat. It's yummy in my mouth right now. :D

Also, when we did our taxes a few weeks ago we filed for the Federal First Time Home Buyer's credit. It is a $7500 credit which you must pay back to the federal government over the next 15 years. Basically, they take $500 from your tax return every year for the next 15.

Well, we just found out that with the stimulus bill, if you buy a house starting Jan. 2009, the First Time Home Buyer's Credit is not only increased to $8,000, BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY IT BACK.

So, we closed our house Dec. 10th...it we would have waited, we would have been 8 grand the richer.

Oh yeah..

And I'm sick. and at work. and my head is going to explode.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Get well soon Amanda.

Hey you shouldn't be at work with Strep though! You should be at HOME. Resting.

Sucks about the home credit. BOO!

I always feel bad staying home from work. I did yesterday and felt like a wuss. I can honestly say that I feel like S*hite though!

Ah well, I guess my bad luck strikes again about the tax credit. Worst part is, my bridezilla-in-law will be eligible for it. Why oh why must my luck be so bad. haha

It doesn't appear to be retroactive unfortunately. Although I plan to read more into it.

We bought in Washington, NJ. North-West in Warren County. 10 minutes away from Pennsyl-tucky. ;) Nice, big new townhouse. It didn't cost us a fortune but we really wanted to keep the taxes under control. Only thing that sucks is that I work at Montclair State and my commute is awful.

Phil was diagnosed with depression yesterday. I guess that is part of why he's been so convinced that he's going to get fired despite the fact that work has given him no indication that they have a problem with his work. The negativity that is part of depression leads to irrational thoughts like that.

I feel so bad about it because it's partially my fault. In addition to his fears about the recession, he's got the stress of getting used to a new wife that is herself getting used to a new country.
