I have a cat vent as well. We have these feral cats who have been hanging around and there are two strays among them - one of whom was the mother of several of the others. The Atlanta Humane Society has a no kill shelter but it is virtually always full. I have been calling every morning to see if they have space so I can take in either one or both of these strays. Today, that had space. When I made the call, one of the strays was on the front porch. By the time I had hung up the phone he was no where in sight. I have been out looking for both of these strays so I can take them in! Of course, every other day they are hanging around and there is no space. Today, when there is space, I can't find them. Well, they are 'reserved' space for today so hopefully one or both will show up soon. It will be about an hour's drive to the north side of town and I don't want to have to do it during rush hour and I definitely need to do it before they close. Grrrrrrr.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

You're doing the right thing. Just remind yourself of that. ^_^

March 13, 2009--Visa application handed to the post office.

March 16, 2009--Visa application received by Vermont Service Centre at 11:01 am. Let's hope that he actually put in everything he thought he did and they don't send it back to us!!

March 23, 2009--Got the whole package back. The cheque was apparently filled out incorrectly, thanks to the fact that his moronic flatmates helped him and instructed him wrong for the first cheque he ever filled out.

March 30, 2009--NOA1

August 12, 2009--Touched

September 1, 2009, received Package 1 from Montreal--but where is our NOA2???

not not our new car... the car we already had...

the hubster thinks we can get a few more years out of this car...

I am so annoyed right now. The Social Security office won't let Réjean file for a replacement Social Security card without his actual green card. They won't accept his I-551 stamp. I have heard reports of it taking months to receive a new green card. How the heck is he supposed to prove that he's eligible to work? Will his I-551 stamp and his drivers license suffice? At least we were finally able to get THAT replaced!

I called the Social Security Administration's customer service line and talked to a really rude lady. She also said that he can't file for his replacement SS card until he gets his actual green card. Then why the #### does this document on Social Security's website say "Accept as valid a temporary I-551 stamp with a future expiration date"?!

I don't have the energy to deal with this bullsh*t.

Sometimes anger gives us enormous energy to deal with bullsh*t. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this.

well, we just dropped the car off at the shop.. they are going to call us with an estimate...

hopefully it isn't too much

so it is going to be about 1500 bucks :o:wacko: I guess we wrecked something in the engine driving it like that....

he rattled off a bunch of things that need to be replaced like the radiator, water pump etc....

Wow Marilyn! This is your new car? Sorry you've been hit with this. Makes you wonder whether you should be fixing it or replacing it!

So... I bought a pack of cigarettes tonight. :(

I haven't smoked since I moved down here but I just really have had a craving this past week. So I did it... I don't even know how to buy a pack of cigarettes in the states, it was quite funny, as if I were at some sort of sampling. The poor teenaged boy behind the counter didn't know what to think of me either.

"I want something light and smooth, I just want a taste but nothing too strong..."

So I left the 7-11 and lit one up and was driving, and got the biggest head rush of my life and had to pull over.

Then like a KID, I went back to the 7-11 bought some gum, and chewed like 3 pieces before coming home, then walked into our apartment, went straight to the washroom and brushed my teeth and sprayed nice smelling stuff on me. My husband came up to me to ask me something and all I did was nod because I was afraid he'd smell it.:(

It really was a funny sight... in my head anyways.

I know I know... its bad for me. I had to share it with someone so why not you guys.

omg...this is so funny. Yes, who else to share it with! Who else but a recent ex smoker could appreciate this.

Cat vent 2 -

Ok, one of the two strays finally showed up so at 2:30 I loaded her into the carrier and the car for the 25 mile drive to Atlanta to the Atlanta Humane Society no kill shelter. She is great in the carrier -better than any of ours - and we get there about 3:35. I take her in, they look at her, check her over, agree she is friendly and well behaved and take her out back to do bloodwork to test for FeLeuk. A few minutes later they bring in back and say they won't take her. She is friendly but she resisted more than they wanted while they were doing the bloodwork and don't want to have to struggle with her if they have to do anything! The cat has just endured a 25 mile car ride, is nervous and being handled by 2 strangers - of course she isn't happy about that. They carried her back in and put her back in the carrier and said she was good natured and friendly but she just struggled too much and so they won't take her! Grrrrr! So, we drive home during the beginning part of rush hour and get in at 4:45. She slept in the carrier on the way home. I think they just didn't want to take her because she was a stray. So now I am stuck with plan B which is only partly satisfactory. I have already made arrangements with my vet to get her spayed and vaccinated on Tuesday. At least she won't have any more kittens while I try to find a good home for her. The feral cat spay program won't take her because she is tame and a stray. The Humane Society won't take her because she isn't tame enough and a stray. I can't win :-(. The two low cost spay options both require drives of around 100 miles (4 trips at 25 miles each) during rush hour traffic for drop off and pick up on the same day and only save me about $30 from my regular vet giving me a discount - and they will keep her overnight. So, I still have a cat available but now she will be spayed. Joe is just not happy with having these cats around the yard and all and we have been arguing about it. I am running out of viable solutions.

IN LAW VENT:

Since we have left the home of the inlaws I'll be the first to admit that my relationship with them has strengthened. Though I don't think it will ever be strong because I am just very different from my MIL.

I just feel though, that she is pushing my husband and I to buy a house. I certainly am not ready to do this, nor is Mike. We are content living where we are living but she can not seem to grasp that. She just can not believe that we'd be happy renting an apartment.

See, Mike has cousins who have recently married and they are all well on their way to living the American dream, all have bought their first house. My MIL is a keep up with the joneses type, and feels the need to be better than everyone else.

My husband and I came to the conclusion that she really has nothing "good" to say about us at family events, no big news to share. We don't plan on having kids, and we don't plan on buying a home... right now anyways. We are in no rush.

You know how parents love to talk about the great accomplishments of their offspring right? Well job promotions and raises aren't enough for the MIL, she wants to see us owning, and buying and living large like her.

Unfortunately thats just not us.

That's annoying, it bothers me when in-laws interfere. After all, it's your life and your family is happy and just fine the way you are. If you're not ready or want to buy a home, why would you? A few people said that to us too, why would you rent it's throwing $$ away each month. Uhhh well I'd rather rent and be able to meet my monthly payments that buy a home not being able to afford it and go into foreclosure down the road. The problem is too many people bought homes because they couldn't afford it and look where they are now. Plus, I don't want to buy a home anytime soon. That means I'd have to cut grass and tend to a garden :P I think in a few years we'll maybe be ready but not right now. We're happy renting, anytime there is a problem we ring the landlord and they deal with it

I agree.

Also NJ is insanely priced, and I said that the last time we were all together and his grandmother, who I really don't get along with at all, starts going on: "You could buy in Vineland, or one of those places, you're certainly not going to afford a home in Mount Laurel!!"

Then I won't buy, because I would rather not live with the Pineys.

His mom is always asking us about this "tax credit" Obama has offered and asking us when we're looking to buy. I always shrug and say: "Never" just to be snippy.

The corn growers have now got an ad campaign going . I saw this one on the t.v. this afternoon

Yeah they have had some ads on for a while.

The whole premise is that people who don't want to consume HFCS are ignorant (which you already know)

The part I find funny is, what marketing genius decided making people appear ignorant sells products

Honestly... HFCS isn't any worse for you than sugar. HFCS or sugar have relatively the same effect -- it sweetens, too much isn't good for you and if you have have too much of either, you can easily gain weight. Maybe some people dislike the taste (which is their prerogative), but the real problem isn't HFCS itself. The U.S. adds both HFCS and sugar to many products, when one of the two would suffice.

The whole HFCS is "evil" (or whatever) is patently false. It's as harmful as sugar, which means it should be taken in limited quantities. Excess of either can could be detrimental.
