I am so annoyed right now. The Social Security office won't let Réjean file for a replacement Social Security card without his actual green card. They won't accept his I-551 stamp. I have heard reports of it taking months to receive a new green card. How the heck is he supposed to prove that he's eligible to work? Will his I-551 stamp and his drivers license suffice? At least we were finally able to get THAT replaced!

I called the Social Security Administration's customer service line and talked to a really rude lady. She also said that he can't file for his replacement SS card until he gets his actual green card. Then why the #### does this document on Social Security's website say "Accept as valid a temporary I-551 stamp with a future expiration date"?!

I don't have the energy to deal with this bullsh*t.

08/25/06 - 08/08/07 - K1 timeframe from mailing the petition to the NSC to K1 approval at the Montréal Consulate

08/31/07 - Réjean makes the big move to the USA

10/09/07 - Réjean gets his SSN

Adjustment of status:

10/26/07 - Mailed AOS/EAD/AP

11/23/07 - Biometrics appointment

12/14/07 - I-485 transferred to the California Service Center

12/28/07 - EAD approved!

01/07/08 - EAD received

02/08/08 - GREEN CARD APPROVED!!!!!!

02/16/08 - Green card received!

*headdesk*:

01/02/09 - Réjean loses his wallet containing his drivers license, Social Security card, and green card

02/04/09 - Our best friends bail us out by giving us the money to file for the replacement green card!

02/12/09 - E-filed I-90 for the replacement green card along with the $370 filing fee (including biometrics)

02/19/09 - NOA1

02/25/09 - Biometrics appointment

05/01/09 - Replacement green card received

Removal of conditions:

01/07/10: Mailed I-751 packet by overnight mail to the CSC

01/11/10: I-751 packet delivered and signed for

01/19/10: Received NOA1

01/28/10: Biometrics (did walk-in due to Réjean being out on the road on original date of 02/10/10)

02/03/10: APPROVED!!!

02/05/10: Received e-mail from USCIS saying the card production has been ordered

02/06/10: Received letter typed on plain paper from USCIS congratulating Réjean on his removal of conditions approval

Sorry to hear you are having such a hassle Necrotica.

Sounds like it's time to escalate this, to a supervisor or even to a state representative.

So... I bought a pack of cigarettes tonight. :(

I haven't smoked since I moved down here but I just really have had a craving this past week. So I did it... I don't even know how to buy a pack of cigarettes in the states, it was quite funny, as if I were at some sort of sampling. The poor teenaged boy behind the counter didn't know what to think of me either.

"I want something light and smooth, I just want a taste but nothing too strong..."

So I left the 7-11 and lit one up and was driving, and got the biggest head rush of my life and had to pull over.

Then like a KID, I went back to the 7-11 bought some gum, and chewed like 3 pieces before coming home, then walked into our apartment, went straight to the washroom and brushed my teeth and sprayed nice smelling stuff on me. My husband came up to me to ask me something and all I did was nod because I was afraid he'd smell it.:(

It really was a funny sight... in my head anyways.

I know I know... its bad for me. I had to share it with someone so why not you guys.

Sometimes anger gives us enormous energy to deal with bullsh*t. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this.

Wow Marilyn! This is your new car? Sorry you've been hit with this. Makes you wonder whether you should be fixing it or replacing it!

Well I am glad someone understands.

The cigarettes are in my drawer... I don't think I'll smoke them again but knowing they are there gives me a false sense of security.

 Oh Nev...great story. haha

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Spring has sprung. No, not really, but it's about to.

How do I know?

My cat has begun peeing. He does this about twice every year in February or March. I suspect it's some kind of spring fever thing. He's an indoor cat, neutered, and what he'll do is walk up to you, rub on you so you're watching him, then go over to something, move like he's gonna sit, and pee. He makes SURE you know he's doing it--but he's subtle enough that he always gets some pee out before you realize what he's doing.

I don't know how to make him stop this. He'll only do this 2 or 3 times a year, but when he does, he ALWAYS manages to do it in the worst place possible. It's like it's an attention grab--which doesn't make sense since his little lordship is rarely more than 6 feet away from me and gets petted, cuddled and played with for HOURS AND HOURS every day! Everyone in my family plays with him, but the look on his face when he takes a leak in front of you is like "HA. LOOK AT ME!"

His latest target was my sister's skating bag. My sister is a competitive figure skater with EXTREMELY expensive skates. She left her bag open near the woodstove to dry out last night (her skates get damp during practice so they make her bag damp) and he peed RIGHT IN THE BAG. I'm lucky the skates were on a chair nearby, but still. Now I'm stuck trying to get the smell out of this bag and get it dry before anyone comes home because I'm afraid they'll make me get rid of him.

Yikes! I hope you can get it out. The lady who owned our house before us had 5 cats and it REEKED of cat pee when we first looked at it.

Soon enough we will start the process of putting in flooring because even though I have tried, you can still smell it a little in certain places.

There are products specifically designed to remove urine - Urine Off is one - you can get them at most pet stores. They contain an enzymatic cleaner that doesn't just erase the smell but digests the organic material to remove it completely.

You might want to check and see if your cat has a urinary tract infection. Is his litter box well cleaned? Is there a new noise or activity in the vicinity of his litter box that might interrupt him while using it so he doesn't? Perhaps he is seeing unneutered tom cats outside of the house and is feeling threatened by their presence and is marking his territory. Tom cats are much more 'active' in the Spring when female cats come into heat and he may be reacting to their presence.

Good luck.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I quit smoking about 4 years ago, and for the first 2 years, I didn't have cravings or urges very often. However, the last 2 have been awful. I'll smoke a cigarette once each year usually, and get so sick that the mere thought of a cigarette makes me nauseated.

It would seem a little strange that he's getting a UTI at the exact same time every year, wouldn't it? And he's on a urinary health formula of food. There aren't many cats out at the moment--we live right on a highway and they tend to meet with... unfortunate ends. I haven't seen cat tracks in the snow this winter at ALL. He's completely indoor. His litter box is in a part of the house that no one goes to (yes, there are parts like that. Literally no one goes there unless they need something). Nothing's changed in his litter box area. He's done this in THREE different houses now, exact same time of year. It doesn't seem to matter if his litter box is dirty or immaculate. At one point, I kept it immaculate except for one little clump in case the problem was that it was *too* clean.

He's FINE for like, 10 and a half months of the year.

He was also neutered at 4 months, and I thought that was supposed to stop them feeling threatened by toms? He's not declawed, but I do trim his claws a bit because if I don't, he attacks furniture.

If it wasn't for the fact that he's done this EVERY year about this time, I'd think he was depressed that my fiancé just left (he was up for a visit and Leo ADORES him).
