So I don't know whether or not this venting thread has a theme, but I'm not about to read through 300+ pages to find out. :P

I had a meeting with my boss today to receive my yearly evaluation (2 months late) and find out my raise/bonus. It tuned out that my raise was less than it was the previous year.

In 2007 I was still relatively new to the job and had much less knowledge/responsibility than I had last year. Last year I took on several extra projects, improved my productivity, trained new staff, and was generally awesome. I'm quite disappointed that I'm not being rewarded for this. I don't care if the economy is ######, there is a huge variation in the pay scale for my job, and I'm right in the middle. If I had one of the best evaluations (which was the case according to my boss), then I think I should be closer to the top of the scale. Bah!

Okay, I'm really struggling with this now. As some of you know, things have been rough financially as hubby has been unemployed since August. We weren't able to visit his family in BC at American Tgiving, as we normally do. So, hubby hasn't seen his family in over a year (except for his parents visiting after the baby was born). He is dying to see them as well as introduce his family to our little boy. We had talked about trying to find a way to visit in August for his cousin's wedding. Right now, I have no vacation time left from work, but by August, I will have accrued more hours. Well, yesterday, hubby talked to his parents and they suggested that he come visit now, while he is not working. They will use their air miles to get his plane ticket and as he will be staying with them, costs will be minimal. The costs to us would be the loss of unemployment compensation for the time he is gone and purchasing travel health insurance for Declan (with his history of health problems, I feel he NEEDS to be covered just in case). On one hand, I know how important it is for my husband's mental health to get to go see his family. On the other hand, it is killing me that my little boy will be gone for a week or two. I haven't even left him overnight yet. And the petty part of me is really jealous that hubby gets to travel and visit a place that I consider one of the most relaxing settings in the world, while I have to stay behind and work as usual. And then I feel guilty for even thinking that way, because I do know that hubby would be working if there were ANY jobs in his field in this area. ARGH!!!

The good news in all of this, is that since hubby isn't working right now, in fact it might be the most ideal time for him to go. Secondly, his parents are paying for the ticket, thirdly, they'll get some time with their grandson.

It's always rough when a Mom and her child is first separated, and I'm not talking about a babysitter...but it will be a good thing, maybe for both of you. Declan will be surrounded by so much love while he'll be away. Your husband will feel pride and nurtured while he's back home, and you my dear, while missing them both, will have some quality time for yourself. Long baths, books you've put aside to read when you have time, food that doesn't follow the Food Guide.

I think for all of you, once you're all back together as a family could benefit from this break away. I think it's healthy to be jealous and guilty. With a renewed personna while he's away, your husband may also be better able to find work upon his return.

In the meantime... HUGS

Don't get me wrong, I love my job. But I have never worked at a place that makes the smallest things sooo complicated and pushes so much paper. Something small happens, someone makes a mistake and a protocol has to be typed up right away. Rules are forever changing, so much so, that nobody ever knows which page we're on. Things just don't need to be this complex. If everyone here just took a deep breath and calmed down before they decided to push more paper, things would be a lot easier.

Oh and the chains of command... hilarious.

"Write so and so an email and tell them this..."

Well you could just write the email yourself and we could skip the game of broken telephone... oh no wait that would be too easy! I see what you're doing there. :P

The company Phil works for got some bad news on Friday so Phil has become really nervous that he'll lose his job. He was upset all weekend so I've been strong and supportive. Now that he's gone off to work, I'm a ball of nerves and of course, there's no one here to talk to.

My boss would do that all the time, drove me nuts! "E-mail joyce and tell her blah blah blah, write this down!" In my head I'm like wouldn't it be easier if YOU e-mail it since you know exactly what to say? And then, it pissed me off so bad when I sent it and he'd come out of his office and say "It wasn't worded properly!" WELL WHY DIDN'T YOU SEND IT IN THE FIRST PLACE BUDDY?!

Catherine, hopefully everything will be alright with Phil's job. I'll keep my fingers crossed! What line of work is he in?

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

A raise can be negotiable. Did you say something about it to your boss?

Well, no one was fired or laid off yesterday. I don't think we'll be relaxing until a couple more weeks have gone by. The company's largest client had some serious complaints and it may take them a while to decide what the most appropriate response is. Phil is worried because he is the newsest member of the team. The person who did the worst thing (signing the manager's name to stuff and sending it to clients) is so far up the owner's a$$ that I'm sure he'll be fine.

Good news about Phil, Catherine. :)

I started preparing everything to import my car and I got a letter of compliance from Volvo USA (Extremely fast and awesome service btw). Everything is fine and compliant on my car except one thing : my car is in km/h and I need to have it converted to mph.

Okay it is not that bad considering I can buy a US specs speedometer on ebay for something around 60$ and then have the dealer reprogram it to match the car's actual mileage (the ECU being the reference). So to me it was not a big deal and it really is not, it is a matter of 30 mins to an hour max to do everything .. EXCEPT that Canadian Volvo car dealers are asking 750$ just to reprogram it because apparently this is a fee they have to charge to prevent people from exporting cars to the US (and that statement is coming from them directly) ....

####### ? So I called Volvo USA which told me that apparently there is a "grace" period that apply .. meaning that I could move to the US and have it done there in a certain amount of time after entering the US. So I think that is what i'll do cause I really do not have any intention of paying 750$ which to me is a complete rip off :ranting:

Is there a law in your State that says your car must be converted? I've never heard of this. Everyone I know who brought their car here, including me, were not required to do so.

The good news in all of this, is that since hubby isn't working right now, in fact it might be the most ideal time for him to go. Secondly, his parents are paying for the ticket, thirdly, they'll get some time with their grandson.

I agree with everything Carla has said, Autumn. Including the hugs. While it sucks that you can't go, also, it is definitely a time I would enjoy by treating myself to lie-ins and sitting around in my jammas eating froot loops.
