Lately its seems like bad news after bad news after bad news phone calls from back home from various sources:

"So and so got run over by a dump truck and died, Chip has cancer in his left eye, the government is reorganizing and I might be out of a job, they just laid-off 300 people at Ledcor, my retirement account has tanked and I'm going to be poor for my retirement, your dad and brother are still not talking, my poor brother is really hating prison, I got into a car accident yesterday, I hate my job, your grandmother isn't doing too well ya know, Jenner doesn't have long to live, those shoes I bought on vacation hurt my feet . . . . . . . so Cat how are things with you?"

Just one bit of good news. That would be nice.

Are you sure this is your life? It sounds like a soap opera.

The thing is - some of those people I don't know - they're friends and family of the people I know. Everyone just feels the need to call and let me know about it - all in a few hours of one another. I think they all waited for Xmas to be over to spread the New Year Cheer.

They're probably just wanting to fill you in on all the gossip. Maybe give them some guidelines at the beginning of their calls, first, if you've had your bad news quota for the week. Sometimes it can get a bit overwhelming.

Good advice actually. I never thought of that, but I guess they presume I don't have much contact and know what's going on over there.

I love how you put that caveat in there, just in case I turn out to be an axe murderer or something.

A cold means you need to rest and do as little as possible.

Ask for more love at this time.

Yeah, when you Husband walks in say 'hey sugar man, give me some love'

MrsCat, my take on your appalling phone calls was the same as that mean ole krikits. I guess sometimes the blah news kind of sticks in peoples heads and so when they talk to you that's what comes out. I like the guidelines idea.
