I'm sorry... I shouldn't have added that last part to my post. It was one of those few moments where I had come completely unglued.

Several years ago, I was in a similar situation..... no health insurance, a mountain of bills, and to top it off, a ruptured eardrum. I was lucky that I was assigned to this doctor at the emergency room. He initially prescribed me a litany of medications. After telling him that I could not afford all of them, he gave me a bit of advise. First he told me (as Flames advised) to always ask for the generic version, and he told me you can always ask the doctor if they have any sample packages. I got a bag full of sample packages and was very grateful for it.

I know they canbe hard to find, but have you been able to locate any free clinics? My Nursing program offers a free clinical, staffed by student nurses and fully qualified Nurse Practitioners. Ya , u get bombarded with questions, lol, but its free!! Check out your local universities to see if they have a Nursing or physicians program and if they offer a free, or reduced fee clinical. Or play around with Google, and see if you can locate a clinic that way! They tend to not be very well advertised, so it can take some poking around. What city do you reside in. I could email one of my instructors and see if she knows of any in your area.

No, you were not incorrect in stating 1800-suicide sucks, lol There are some crappy counselors! I'm sure they mean well, but just can't communicate that well. If they are not helping, let them know, and more than likely they can get some one else, or call another service!! Or PM me, i may not have anything wise, but sometimes, just writing stuff down helps! Some suggest to write things down, and throw it in the garbage, keeping stuff bottled up may not help.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Thanks, Flames. I've been to about 15 counselors in my life (yeah, I'm pretty screwed-up in the head; I admit it freely), but I've only found two that I actually felt could help me. Neither of which I could see for long due to my crappy circumstances each time. I've given up at this point.

There are those types of clinics here, but from what I understand they are extremely difficult to get into (have to wake up very early and basically flood the phone line to try and get an appointment; it's like calling a radio station to try to be the #th caller to win a prize). With the fatigue I have to deal with plus the bronchitis on top of it, I'm sorry, but I just don't have the energy to fight like that. Plus they'd probably deny me anyway simply because my husband alone earns something like 200% of the poverty level, even though our bills (and his carefree spending habit; a whole 'nother rant) eat it all up.

The clinic we put on, no questions are asked at all about income. It does say on a form that you have no insurance, but we dont turn people away. A family drove up in brand new Mercedes, we still saw them. But yes some of the free clinics do see a huge amount of people

*sigh... I really try hard not to let this particular issue bother me.. and I really really try hard to not to allow myself this kind of rant about my husband's ex.. but HONESTLY...

Since hubby & I have been married she's been on 3 major vacations.. and is currently planning another cruise.. she also was talking to hubby last night about traveling while she takes a "break" from the kids this summer..

I'm not at all opposed to her taking holidays.. but the thing that gets me is that we give her SOOO much money on child support (3x's the amount that is in the child support order) and she is always asking for more for this expense or that expense.. add on top of that all the travel $$ that we spend to get hubby there and back, and we haven't been able to afford even a weekend away for ourselves. We can't afford anything extra at this point *sigh.. golly gee whiz... It makes me feel like we are funding her vacations.. (I know that's irrational, but it's where I"m at this am).

Sounds like you're partially financing her lovely vacations....why 3x's the normal amount? Because your husband is so generous? I'd be putting a stop to that right now. What the judge ordered, is what he should be paying. If the kids need more, that can be arranged....for specifics. If she's giving him the gears about that's not enough, I suppose she could try and amend the order? There is a reason the judge set aside that amount...it's because that's what your husband could afford, that's what she "needed", that's the allowable amount given the number of children etc. Something you might want to talk to your husband about. I'm all about making sure the kids don't suffer, but it sounds like his ex has him on a financial leash.

Just my opinion....

You deserve a hug today sweetie. You know if you ever want to come to MO, there is free accomodation here for you. You could have time and space to yourselves. We'd love to host you, I'm an excellent cook if I do say so myself...all you'd need is the gas money, or some cheap airfare sale! Please think about it. (except for the last week of January, and the first week of February!).

Awe Carla.. honestly that is just the sweetest thing ever.. thank you so much for that offer.. It is a very special one indeed!! How I'd LONG to have some of your home cooking :) Your menu plans always sound so yummers!!

*sigh.. we're trying now to save for my removal of conditions and hubby's upcoming trip to see his kids in Feb/Mar.. his ex is going on a cruise so she asked him to come and stay with the kids.. so that's another expense..

Thanks for listening girls.. honestly.. i just needed to get that out this am...

E-Sorry to hear about your troubles. I sort of understand it because my husband's parents are divorced, and his mum (who is a nice lady, btw) really took his dad to the cleaners. She tried to go after half of his pension, and in order to stave her off, he ended up giving her super high monthly alimony payments.

The thing that sucks, is she is the one who was having an affair with her boss at work. My husband has never talked about it in detail with me because obviously it is a sore spot for him. He was a principal at the time and she has only ever been a secretary, therefore she was making considerably less than he was which made the alimony payments even greater.

She got 50% of their house and possessions, and with that she bought a brand new condo is one of the nicest towns around North Jersey. My father in law had to go and live with his mother for 2 years because he couldn't afford to buy another place, and then rented a condo in a shitty town for another 2 years before he got back on his feet and moved up the pay scale again.

They are two really nice people, but you never know what any one is capable of until stuff like this happens.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

In this case, without all the details, who can say if she really took him to the cleaners? She seems to have wanted 50% of everything - which seems fair to me, on the surface at least?

Em, on the other hand, what is going on with your Husband's ex is really unfortunate, only he can solve it - as you already know and I hope he does :)
