I've got this aggrivating co-worker here. To begin with, she is one of those people that is annoying, without saying a word or doing a thing. She loves to parrot catch phrases and buzz words she hears people say so that she can sound like an IT specialist. She always butts into conversations and will usually try to hijack it with some asinine comment that is completely unrelated. She will turn on new age music (instrumental) and sing her own lyrics. She will work her entire 9 hour shift and barely do her own work. During the day, she will volunteer to help everyone else around the building with stuff, and then she will come back at night and stay til the wee hours of the morning to actually do her own work (all unpaid). Recently, my pet peeve with her has been that someone told her that I was engaged to a Canadian. At first, she would ask me random questions, usually about 5-8 per day. They started getting more and more obscure, like "Why is there an "H" in the middle of the Montreal Canadien's logo?". I knew, but that was my snapping point. I told her, "I'm from the U.S.... i've been to Canada maybe a dozen times, i'm not an expert, you should check out wikipedia.". Now, I get a "daily fact" about Canada from her. How do you politely tell someone "Our jobs have no connection to each other, so, I think it would be best if we never speak again."? To make matters worse, she absolutely loved the last two garfield movies.

My husband finds the same thing; many people at his work like to ask him lots of questions about Canada and tell him stories they've heard about Canada. He started getting a bit annoyed with it; like stop asking me I'm American!!

There was someone like that where I used to work. One of the girls finally said to her "Excuse me, but is your name ????. If not, please don't answer for her." You could suggest that unless she has something to discuss with you pertaining to work to please keep her comments and facts to herself, you don't want to hear them.

Was just thinking of something and thought of this scenario.... Since the AP has already been approved and you've received the email saying so, what about going ahead with your plans and having someone courier the documents once they're delivered? You actually don't require them until you re-enter the US.

Then again, it may just arrive before you leave. :)

Thanks Krikit. Those elusive documents arrived today. The approval may have happened on December 8 but they didn't mail them until December 18th. I'm headed north for Christmas to be with my baby girl for the first time in 6 months. :crying: I can't wait.

OMG, that is AWESOME! Though I probably should have wished for a million dollars for you too. Sorry about that.

Humph! Men! *screams

I agree!!!!! :protest: (What are we humphing about? )

OMG, I used to work with her!!!!!!! Drove me crazy. I used to ignore people like that. I hated doing it but it was the only way to stop them. Any sign of encouragement and they just won't go away. I always marvelled how they could remain completely oblivious to how annoying they are. It boggles the mind.

Ugh! Hubby is frustrating me. He called me at my office right as I was about to go into session to tell me that Declan's ####### looks infected (had surgery a week ago) and wanted me to call the pediatrician. I told hubby that he needed to call the surgeon first because the surgeon would be the most appropriate person to discuss this with, that he would be the expert on things regarding the surgery. Hubby argued with me about wanting to take him in to the pediatrician. Finally, he listened to me and agreed to call the surgeon first. I was late getting into session and was not as focused as I should be. So I just talked to hubby. The surgeon said Declan is fine and his ####### is exactly how it should look in the healing process. And the annoying thing is that hubby still thinks he should have called the pediatrician and that he was right. ARGH!!!

Glad to hear that everything is healing well!

You know, if your pediatrician is worth his salt, he should really be able to identify an infection.

Not saying you are wrong Autumn...you are right - but I think your Husband may be right too (it's one of those - you are both right situations  )

Okay, my turn:

VENT 1

The hissing heaters.

The banging pipes.

####### is that?

I grew up in Montreal.

I have lived in old buildings.

I have never witnessed such horrible heating systems.

VENT 2

Winter.

People in Chicago behave like they do not get/have snow and ice.

(almost) No one has winter tires.

The streets are decorated to the max with xmas stuff: plants, lights, name it...that the city has installed and there is no snow plowing (on any minor streets) and no salt.

The city does not clean the sidewalks here.

Treacherous to get around.

It is full-on anxiety to even think of my sweetie's car and how it is parked on a bed of ice and snow that I basically had to ram it onto a few days ago, and now it is surrounded by the stuff.

I have spent ours shovelling and today especially with the rain coming down on me...not pleasant.

Then the temperature will drop and it will be an ice rink out there.

Sigh.

We hardly use the car living in the city and so....it is getting destroyed by the road and weather conditions.

Going out is like planning a moon landing strategy.

If you drive to visit family or anyone anywhere out of the city, then you come back to: NO PARKING unless you spend a few hours shoveling out a spot.

Man! I did not miss this living out West for 13 years.

Although now...oooouuu they are getting dumped on out there, and the city just shuts down. It cannot deal with it.

VENT 3

No inspiration.

Almost none.

To get motivated, excited about much.

I am living the "in the meantime" kind of life.

Bleh!

I so miss my friends...they were my family to me, as we had selected each other for our common beliefs. (L)

Awaiting us (my partner and I) to get our butts in gear and blow this popsicle stand....it will be another 4 to 6 months though.

Oh there is a light at the end of this tunnel.

All is not lost.

I wish for smoother communication with my honey.

Life just keeps getting better (*sarcasm*)

My husband and I have been in some kind of immigration process for over 3 years now which has kept one of us unemployed during that entire time. Although it is nice to have him around on a daily basis, the financial burden is killing me. We live on my income and still have 1 child at home and 1 child away at school with a child of her own who is 3 years old and diagnosed with leukemia. Since my daughter has very little income as a student, I support the grandson the best I can with helping out with medical costs. I haven't seen my daughter or grandson in over 2 years simply because I cannot afford it financially and I miss them terribly.

I have a steady salaried job complete with benefits, but I make enough to cover only the basics of living (rent, food, car payment, etc). Recently, I have had to stop taking my thyroid medication because I can't afford it any longer (in addition to the constant med management via dr visits and lab work that the doc requires before she will write a new script). My period started 20 days ago and will not stop and again, due to lack of funds (not even the $40 needed for a office copay), I just suffer through it, but I am sure it is just due to stress. Sometimes I wish my medical problems were terminal because I am just plain tired and I can get some rest when I am dead.

I am hoping my job slows down enough (I work 10-12 hour days M-F and 5-6 hours every Sat and Sun) so I can take a second job so I feel like I can breathe financially. This holiday, I will not buy 1 present for anyone and I feel terrible for my kids. I feel like a complete failure even though I live an honest life and work my ####### off. At the same time, I don't understand why USCIS is dragging out my husband's EAD like they are.

Good thing I don't believe in God or religion, because both of them would certainly fill me with rage at this point.
