I feel down tonight. :(

I want to move back to France eventually. As an accountant, me having a CPA will be extremely valuable. In order for me to sit for the exam, I need to satisfy the 5th year of schooling.

So I look into a Master program. Oh boy, they want me to take one class/quarter the first year, then 2 classes/quarter the second year while taking the CPA exam at the same time. I am sorry but I can't do that. I can deal with the school aspect but not the CPA studying at the same time. English is not my first language and I work full time. :(

I am just depressed, I really don't know what to do. I don't want to just take random classes just so that I can sit for the exam, it seems like a waste of time. I'd rather go for a Master. Oh and they ask for 3 recommendations. Hello!!! I never had that many supervisors/bosses in my short professional career, how the heck am I supposed to come up with 2 let alone 3 recommendations.

Migrating back to your home country is such a nightmare when your degree is American. :(

:(

Did you get things worked out, Lili?

when will this buggie get out of my tummy?! doctor thinks it might be dysentery now and not c. difficile but we won't know for 6 days. :crying:

Brief background - My mom was in Peru this summer and got violently ill and was hospitalized for dysentery. Doctor thinks she may have given it to me before I left Canada. :dead:

:(

Hope you are feeling better soon, Cat.

Maybe in the big hospitals? I've been to a few local ones here in New Jersey and I haven't seen any food chains or anything.

There was a Tim Hortons in the hospital my uncle was in.

I've only been to four hospitals here in the US. The two my FIL was in, the one my husband's cousin was in, and the one my friend's daughter was in. All of them were absolutely fabulous.... with the exception of the one my friend's daughter was in.... that one was average. lol. And the one the cousin was in even had a putting green! :o I didn't notice fast food restaurants, though. But, then again, I didn't go looking for a place to eat so they may have been there and I just didn't notice. I mean, seriously. Who has a stomach for eating when you're in a hospital? Maybe I'm just a little squeamish.

Theraflu does not work nearly as well as Neo Citran. This I know is true. Last night I had a theraflu to try to knock me out the way I know Neo Citran can, and it did NOT stand up to the test. It worked, but it just took longer than the neo citran would have.

McDonalds in hospitals is rather ironic to me. Just another thing I will never understand.

I need to just stay the hell out of threads about mental health issues. I just get so angry when people talk about how medication is unnecessary, or this disorder isn't real, or the world is going to hell in a handbasket because parents live in fear of their kids alleging child abuse. ARGH!!!!

Thanks for asking, Krikit. But no... Hubby said he would look into it but I am still waiting... My plan of action is to get my school account unlocked when I have some time, then I will be able to see how many credits I still truly need.

Oh well. :(

Thanks for asking Lili :) I am a psychotherapist - I've been working with people with mental health issues for quite a while now and am passionate about my career. Mental illness still has such a stigma and is not helped by people talking about how medication is unnecessary. And one of my "specialties" is trauma work - do a lot with survivors of abuse, both kids and adults ... and when people imply the world was better off when parents could spank, it just rankles.

I understand you oh so clearly.

I developed anorexia during my teen years and I begged my parents for help. But no, they said it was all in my head and that medication was not needed. Here I am, 10 years later and struggling on a daily basis with body image and weight. I honestly believed that talking to someone would have helped.

Parents are afraid to have their kids labeled as crazy so they'd rather close their eyes and pretend everything will get better. It just doesn't. This turned into confession time. Sorry for the tangent.

Lili - Don't apologize for the tangent. That is what is great about this thread, that we can go off in all directions. I commend you for recognizing that you needed help when you were a teen. I'm so sorry that your parents wouldn't get it for you. I don't know your specific situation, but you can still find someone to talk to now (L)

Autumn..I agree about mental health issues. I think it's common that people don't get the proper help they need until it's too late.

Although, I was spanked as a kid and I sure as hell learned what authority was. I see some of my husband's god kids...4-8 years old, and their parents say,

"Danielle..please don't do that.."

While I don't agree with spanking for any and every reason, I will say that telling a 4 year old to "not do that" is not the proper way to go about it either.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Just my 2 cents: The reason spanking "works" is due to the consistency. When a parent says, I will spank you if you do this ... and then does spank, the child learns there is a consistent consequence for their actions. Do I recommend other consequences as an alternate to spanking, YES!!! Parents need to be consistent and follow through with what they say. Other consequences work well when they are consistent. I am not at all saying someone is horrible if they do spank their children, just that in my experience, I have found other things work better WHEN THEY ARE DONE CLEARLY AND CONSISTENTLY.

Man oh man do I ever agree with you. The little girl that I babysit sometimes here is soo spoiled and her parents let her get away with ANYTHING. They are soo wrapped up in what theyre doing (what they're doing = watching TV, playing xbox, watching dr.phil, anything EXCEPT looking after her :( ) that they dont ever come through with consequences. And then, after they finally do do something about her misbehaving, they will cuddle her and be all "im sorry" when she cries. However, with me, she knows, if she hits, shes going into her room, and the gate is going up and I will sit there and talk to her about why we dont hit our friends. She is such a well behaved child when shes with me but as soon as one of her parents comes home, she turns into terror child again, and the hits come out. If I take her to her room, shell cry and her dad will come over and pick her up and hug her and let her out. Makes me wonder why they have me here sometimes. The other day she thru a temper before her dad left and when I went to take her out of the situation she started waling on me hitting me over and over. She was crying because she was mad at me for taking her away from what she was doing (which she wasnt supposed to be doing in the first place) and her dad was like "Awww come here baby" and went to cuddle her, I was like NO. She does NOT get cuddled for hitting!" But he did it anyways :( Its soo frustrating.

Dont get me started on them giving her a pacifier at 2 1/2 already! She screams and cries for it at night, they say but nap time, its soo easy to get her down with out it. They give it to her because they dont want to deal with her crying at night. The parents make me want to tear my hair out!!!!

And spanking won't work for every child, my oldest brother, it worked for, my middle brother couldn't care less if you spanked him, but if you took away his lego or put him in a room by himself - look out! And me, well my parents just had to give me a LOOK and I'd be in tears..

I wouldn't NOT spank but neither would I use it as a vent of my own anger and frustration.. it would not be a knee jerk reaction.. I saw that from my own father and it just didn't do anything to curb our behavior except just try not to do something that would tick him off.
