I WANT MY BABY TO START BREASTFEEDING!!!!!!!!

I have NEVER experienced anything so difficult. I really want to do this, but it is so frustrating when he doesn't latch or falls asleep right away (pretty much every time). I am so tired of crying about it too, but can't seem to stop doing that. I've read a lot about how challenging breastfeeding can be and know I am experiencing the "baby blues", but knowing all that still doesn't make it feel better.

It could still be fleas . . . . they spend the majority of their time off the pet and in the woodwork or the carpet. Even though you use the Advantage, go over your pet with a flea comb and see if you get any fleas or flea dirt. If you do, that is the problem and you will need to use a premise spray on all the floor and fabric surfaces as well as wash all the bedding and such. The Advantage will keep the fleas off of the animal - it doesn't kill them so if there were any there previously or at any time, they could still be there.

If it isn't fleas, it could be spiders -although it is strange that you would be getting recurrent bites and not see any insect or signs of it. Sad to say, it could also be bed bugs. There is apparently an increase in their presence around the country and could be brought into the house a number of ways. Here is what wikipedia says about their bites:

Bites

In most observed cases a small, hard, swollen, white welt may develop at the site of each bedbug bite. This may be accompanied by severe itching that lasts for several hours to days. Welts do not have a red spot in the center such as is characteristic of flea bites. Some individuals respond to bed bug infestations with anxiety, stress, and insomnia. ^[11] Individuals may also get skin infections and scars from scratching the bedbug bites.

Most patients that are placed on systemic corticosteroids to treat the itching and burning often associated with bed bug bites find that the lesions are poorly responsive to this method of treatment. Antihistamines have been found to reduce itching in some cases, but they do not affect the appearance and duration of the lesions. Topical corticosteroids, such as hydrocortisone, have been reported to expediently resolve the lesions and decrease the associated itching.

Good luck - try antihistimine topical cream or benedryl to calm the itch.

I really don't think it's fleas because we haven't seen a single flea and there isn't any flea dirt on bax.

and as far as bed bugs go, I'm assuming we'd see something, right?

but regardless, I bought a whole bunch of stuff today. premise sprays, insect killer powder..

cost me at least $40 online in total

Breastfeeding can be hard when the baby wont cooperate. I can give you a few tips the nurses gave me when i first started and a few things i noticed also. First does the little one have jaundice. Just asking cause when my kids had it they were more sleepy, I had to flick their little feet to keep them awake. Also strip them down to the diaper so it would wake them up (helps more if it cooler out). Umm oh ya if your also using a bottle stop it if you can, babies can get nipple confussion.( I hate it when they offer a baby a bottle in the hospital the nurses know better if the mom wants to breastfeed) Or at least avoid it as much as possible when babies get hungry they will stay awake, plus formula can keep them full longer then breast milk. Dont feed on a schedual feed when the little one wants till the two of you get the hang of it. I myself fed on demand the entire time (15months) it can be a pain, but its also alot easier then a bottle. Also when I had my kids they gave lots of information sheets some should have how many wet diapers you need to look out for if you want to avoid bottles so you wont start worrying about that too. Since you and baby are so new you can always encourage him to feed every time theres some fussing or level of alertness, it will encourage milk production too.

And plz plz dont get frustrated keep trying you will get it some babies just need a bit more help then others.
