few yrs back, wife badly sprained her ankle! Went to the ER. Sat there for like 3 hrs, finally got admitted. Saw the Dr for all of 2 minutes, had an xray to confirm nothing broken, and that was it!! Bil was close to $1500!. Luckily we have insurance. Since she had an xray, they did a pregnancy test, same one u buy at ur pharmacy for $20, they charged $60,lol Hospitals are not here to make ya better, there here to make $$$$

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I have a confession, I'm a rabid anti-Dentite. I feel for you but a root canal can last a good long time and what most people don't realize is that the act of brushing your teeth actually damages the enamel as can grinding your teeth, various acidic foods and carbonic acid (pop) and even trying to gnaw through your own leg ( don't ask, growing up with Len as your sister was nothing if not interesting and more than a bit painful.) It is possible to have a perfectly healthy-looking tooth without even a cavity yet have enough microfissures in the enamel that there has been an insult to the pulp. I'm taking a wild guess, but by any chance were the caries in the molars? Depending on how many roots the tooth has, will affect the cost, since each root canal has to be obdurated with gutta percha (same stuff they use in golf balls.) Most people drink pop heavily and it is reflected in the increasing number of caries that are seen today.

BTW, there's an old mechanic's trick to unstick an engine that is seized with rust, pour a little pop in the cylinders and let it sit overnight. It works pretty well, and an engine is an alloy of iron and nickel. Can you imagine what the stuff will do to your teeth? :crying: Always drink some water or gargle after drinking pop.

 IR.... :)

Yeah, it's all molars....I only need one root canal, or so he said so...sigh. I'll work it out.

I don't drink pop...lol ew!

Each molar can have 3 roots (a bit rare) or 4 roots (common), 5 roots (pretty rare) or more. Each one has to be cleaned out and sealed before a crown can be put on. Sometimes the roots can be s-shaped which is royal pain to clean and obdurate. A dentist usually charges $200 or so per root. Everybody hates root canals, even the dentist but at least he or she gets paid. :crying:

Does Nick have dental insurance? Might be lots cheaper here actually. I have dental and don't pay much at all for dental care and my dentist is top notch. And root canals are covered. I realize not everyone in the US has dental, but if he does...

Sounds like you have your mind made up already though...hope it doesn't get too expensive!! That really stinks. The money would be better spent on your honeymoon. At least if he does have dental, you can go in for your regular checkups and avoid yucky work like this in the future. And for those visits (preventative) you don't pay a dime usually. Perhaps a sterilization fee of $5, but that's it.

3/5/11 sent LOC paperwork

3/9/11 date of NOA

?/?/?? biometrics appointment

Yes, Nick has full dental coverage.

That's good to know for the future so I can go for regular check ups.

My parents are offering to pay for anything that is not covered under my benefits so...I'm quite lucky.

I feel bad though...

Thanks hon (F)

Good point CBR, I believe that this is true. Canadian dentists tend to be more expensive than US dentists.
