The fact that they shouldn't doesn't stop it from happening, people shouldn't drink and drive either.

 My daughter got pregnant at the ripe old age of 13......it was her Mother's boyfriend's son  So much for good parenting  Now she is struggling at the rip old age of 22 with an 8 year old to raise

There is something to be said for seperating the boys from the girls in school.

The heck with 'at school' my ex should have watching our daughter closer but instead was too busy with the dad to pay attention that his son was banging our daughter

I agree. However, as quite a few have said here already, just because it shouldn't happen, that doesn't mean it won't or can't happen either.

There are a lot of issues in the world today that shouldn't exist, but they do: War, poverty, disease, crime, prejudice , and so on from there. Those all exist (in many forms) and sometimes in abundance, but they shouldn't be a part of life; not in an ideal society. Unfortunately, we don't live in such a place. There are always going to problems and issues we disagree with and find wrong, and the best we can do is find ways to combat them.

so many people unaware of reality..

separating girls from boys, should NOT have sex, etc etc.. why don't you lock your kids and homeschool them.... I think in this fukced up world, the greatest help you can give to a kid, is information.. maybe not condoms, or pills.. but better hear the harsh reality from your parents, than from another kid..

my dad is a doc and my mom was a nurse, my house was filled with every kind of medicine books, ob/gyn, anatomy, urology, etc etc, my folks had the sex talk with me and my bro since and early age, and NO, that didn't make me want to have sex earlier (as some people imply here that if you gain access to any kind of sex info, you will automatically will have sex, or go buy condoms, or pills), but actually got scared lolol for a while...

But they do. It's that old adage in that if you tell a child that they can't do something they automatically want to do it even more...so, as a parent you need to make sure that they are informed and 100% aware of the consequences of their actions.

I agree Mags that children will always want to do what they shouldn't. I don't think that a 13 year old, for example, can make an informed decision, whatever facts and consequences they are given by a parent. I just think that children now have knowledge that is way beyond their years, and therefore cannot logically apply it. I don't think a child can emotionally, and in some cases, physically handle a sexual encounter or experience. I know this sounds extreme to some people, but if you think your 12 year old child is having sex, then IMO you need to take any measures available to prevent it. If that includes monitoring that child for 24 hours a day then so be it.

I agree that I don't think children at the age of 12/13 (or even 14/15/16/17/18 etc) are always mature enough to make this kind of decision. However, they still do it, regardless. I mean, we were all children once and I'm sure that many of did things we shouldn't have done. I know I did!

It isn't always possible to monitor a 13/14 etc year old 24 hours a day. Not unless you are going to take them to school, collect them and ground them for the remainder of their time. If you do that I think you'll just make matters worse.

The idea that '12-year-olds shouldn't be having sex so we shouldn't be teaching them about sex' and similar arguments only makes sense if you think that it's the existence of the available condom, or the sex education, that makes kids have sex. I am pretty sure studies have shown that there isn't a correlation.

I just think that we don't know what emotional and physical damage will be apparent as these kids get older, not to mention the risk of disease and death. They need protecting from themselves.

They need protecting from themselves.

But at what price? Freedom? You can't keep a child away from life just because we don't think they can be trusted. Parents can help educate their children, keep them informed and offer guidance or maybe a slapped hand but we have to let them have some freedom. Keeping a child a prisoner because we are scared they'll have sex is OTT, imo.

We have to let them take responsibility for their actions at some point, it's how they learn things the hard way. ;)

Even if there was a correlation, that doesn't mean a whole lot. As many of my professors (especially those who taught Statistics) were fond of saying, "correlation does not imply causation." In other words, just because there's a correlation, it doesn't mean the subject necessarily caused it to happen. There may have been other variables unaccounted for at the time.

So let me guess this straight. Talking about religion or spirituality, in schools, is WRONG and has absolutely no place in schools but anything to do with sex is a okay.

Why not provide rooms for teenagers to ###### in schools. Because hey the do it anyway right. Create a new ###### 101 class so they can learn new positions.

Probably because this is one school (even in the article they admit that this is extremely uncommon), while the Creationist folks have tried to import their b/s in science curriculums state/nationwide. In perspective this isn't anything to get carried away over.

Anyone who is a liberal atheist pretty much does as they please and sees fit with public facilities while everyone else is simply forced to put up or shut up. I don't need a school teaching kids about sex ed. That is a parent's responsibility. Instead of teaching these kids who to interact like normal human beings in society we are busy teaching them how to ######.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.
