Question 10 on I-134 asks if the sponser has ever petitioned for a visa on behalf of an immigrant before.

Now, I have obviously petitioned for my fiancee. And the example shown on VJ's example form seems to indicate that you SHOULD include your current petition in that list.

But, it just seems a bit odd to me so I was hoping to get some clarification from you guys.

On the I-134 I give to my fiancee for her interview at the embassy, should I list the petition which started the current visa process we are currently in the middle of? Or does the question simply refer solely to previous petitions?

Currently, my answer on I-134 reads "My Fiancee's Name(Current Petition)" Is this a poor answer?

Thanks in advance!

Antipop,

Your answer should read almost exactly what you see in the petition (Name and Submit Date being different of course). Sometimes you have to think like the government does to understand the forms. The I-134 is used for many different purposes, one of which is to sponsor a fiance - to you it's obvious why you're submitting the form, but to the government, you have to clarify..

Have you ever sponsored another person to come to the US? If no, then the answer should be no on the question.

To clarify my response - 'Your answer should read almost exactly what you see in the Example-Form (not petition as I mistyped).

So I should leave it blank? If that's the case, why does VJ's example form seem to indicate otherwise?

Don't leave it blank. The example is correct, if you are the petitioner. It is not correct if you are not the petitioner. It is not only petitioners who use the I-134. For instance, if your Dad is also providing an I-134 as a joint sponsor, he didn't file a petition for this beneficiary. You did.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
