doodle, I'd suggest that you either go to a tailor to have his trouser taken in at the waist once he's here, and buy him a nice belt in the mean time.

I hate shopping for jeans. I've yet to find a pair that fit me to my satisfaction since arriving here. They are always baggy around my bum and the backs of my thighs, yet fit me on the waist; it appears that my legs are a dress size smaller than my hips and waist. It really pisses me off.

I haven't found jeans the way I like either, not like I've looked for them, I only tried jeans at Gap and they were ok. What are good jeans brands here in the states? I mean affordable, not $ 300 jeans.

It is hard. Americans like giant oversized clothes (likely to hide their fat).

My hubby sometimes finds stuff in the boys section. And Express for Men carries smaller sizes. H&M has small (fitted) sizes too.

Yeah, this seems to be a trend. Which sucks when you aren't actually fat and don't want to wear big baggy clothes. I have a hard time finding clothes that fit me. I sometimes end up in the little girls section buying size 14 or 16. It's very frustrating.

How tall are you? I associate the big baggy trend with male clothing, but haven't seen much in the way of baggy clothing in women's styles lately. Express or the Limited tends to have narrower, fitted clothing. (Though not the best quality stuff.)

I'm about 5' 2". I wear a size two in womens clothing. But can wear a 14 or 16 in little girls. I usually buy x-small in shirts in the womens section. I'm just very petite. I think I have a pretty great body so I like for my clothes to fit. I hate wearing baggy shirts, which on me could even be a size small, because they make me look bigger than I really am.

Nessa: I get what you are saying. It's so hard for me to find a pair of pants that actually fits me, that when I do, I don't even take into consideration all of that stuff you said. I'm just excited I found a pair that fits. Altering isn't something I've ever really done. I've just been content to wear clothes that didn't actually fit me quite right. I have started getting things altered though. For the very reason above, I think I have a pretty good body and I want my clothes to show that. May seem a little conceited to some but I haven't always looked like this. I used to be much heavier than what I am. So now that I look good, I want to look good. :D

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!

I like Lucky jeans. It takes me ages to shop for jeans because I am tall and slender and the jeans I was finding at the Mall were good in the waist but too short in the leg ( and too big in the bum) or too long in the leg, too big in the waist and hanging off me. :girlwerewolf2xn:

Here is Lucky website. I think Macys/Dillards...etc stock them too.

IK HOU VAN JOU, MARK

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

Tailoring and darts are probably your best bet for when you don't want to look as if you're dressing in the girls' department. (Not that that's always bad or inappropriate, but it's probably hard to find business clothes that way.)

Mags, I have the opposite problem. I have a body built for 1940s movies at a time when designers are making clothes based on the proportions of anorexic boys. Meaning if I get the jeans to fit in the thighs and butt, I have a gap at the waist. And I'm short, so a puddle at the ankle unless I wear heels.

Thanks, I think I'll have a look at those too. My main problem is that they go baggy after one wearing and lose shape. I've bought GAP and they went baggy. Bought Levis...baggy!

If I buy the smaller size they just never fit ever...lol

Methinks you need to get some with stretch in them Mags. I've worn Levis for years, but you gotta get the ones that have Spandex in them...

It is hard. Americans like giant oversized clothes (likely to hide their fat).

That's an awfully broad stereotype and kind of rude too, imho. It seems that to call out other people for making comments you find rude is hypocritical if you're going to turn around and make similar stereotypes. Perhaps it wasn't meant to be rude and perhaps you don't see that it could be a stereotype, but the same could be said for anything.

In fact, the people I see wearing giant oversized clothes are teenager boys who think it's like totes sexy to belt your pants below your bum. The girls barely keep themselves covered.

I second Kohl's as a great place to find age appropriate clothes for smaller sized men.

It's true! Americans are the fattest country in the world. *shrugs*

Europeans/Antipodeans wear their clothes to fit thier body (teenage trends aside)...

I have the same problem, Mags. I have experience with Levis, so I don't buy them.

The 2 I bought at GAP fit great at first and then baggy. And they're stretch, and I hate stretch, but oh well.

I usually buy very tight jeans cuz I know they will be loose after I wash. But I was used to an especific brand worked great for me in Brazil, and here I'm afraid if I buy too tight after I wash it'll stay that way or get even tighter.

Hubby says: just go to the PX and buy any jeans, but he's a man, they don't understand that kind of thing. Men wear loose jeans, so they can buy whatever jeans, it's pretty much all the same. It doesn't work like that for us women with curves.

I don't think it's a fatness thing, devilette, because the UK ain't far behind in terms of percentage of the populace being fat. And women's clothing is tailored.

But I think there is an American aesthetic for men that says 'a real man doesn't care how he looks, because if he tailors his shirt he might be gay', and that such an aesthetic doesn't exist for European and Australian men.

And they don't care how they look, because THEY ARE FAT! ;)

Nah, it's thin guys, too. :P You can pick out the European graduate students as they're usually the better dressed ones.

What brand of Levis have stretch in them, D? I prefer bootcut, I've got muscley calves from bike riding so skinny fit would look ridiculous!

I actually get quite stressed about it at times. I see all these women out with jeans that fit them great and I think WHY can't I find a pair that fit ME right?
