DEAR MARGO: Many women complain that their husbands don't last very long in bed. I wish I had that problem. I've been married eight years to a wonderful guy -- but my problem is that he lasts too long in bed (typically two hours).

According to him, he's always been this way. By the end of sex, my back aches, my shoulders throb, and, frankly, I'm bored out of my mind. Marathon sex sessions might sound good, but in actuality they're anything but.

I spend the last hour of our "relations" thinking, "For the love of God, just hurry up." Afterward, I hurt for days and only get by with disposable heat packs and tons of Tylenol. Every time he approaches me, I mentally catalog what I have to do for the next week to see if I can afford to be "hobbled."

We've tried taking breaks during, or new positions, but nothing speeds him up. He's commented that he's turned a lot of women away from sex (I can see why) and he's so glad it hasn't happened with us. If he knew how I really felt, he'd be devastated.

For the past five years, the only thing that made our marriage workable is that we get along so well and he only approached me twice a month. Now it's every other day (I'm not sure what's happening to him). What can I do?

--- ACHING WIFE

DEAR ACHE: I sympathize with you. This is not "normal." His problem could be psychological, but more likely it is physiological.

I suggest he see a urologist specializing in men's sexual function. Without revealing your acute discomfort with the situation, you might say you think your lovemaking goes on "a little long" and you believe something's not working right.

No woman's "afterglow" should routinely include heat packs and Tylenol. (I am assuming he is not an alcoholic, because when a guy's drunk it takes forever.) Good luck.

Maybe a good book would make the time go by faster.

I'd say it's probably worse.

If a man is "too quick" then at least the woman isn't in pain and the couple can wait a little while and try again. However, if the man takes a long time (such as two full hours) to finish, the woman will probably be very irritated and sore, so I doubt she'd want to try again for quite a while.

That sounds like a nightmare, in 2 hrs a woman would definitely be bored, sore, and pretty much fed up with it, if it's 2 hrs of sex including foreplay and 2 or 3 times of sex, then it's all good, but 2 hrs for one sex session no foreplay included? This guy definitely needs medical help.
