Harley, do you participate in any other threads? Or do you just like to come back to this one for the mere purpose of arguing with people online?

One of my favorites was Platinum Blonde. Guess the lead singer was recently in a movie or something and kind of made a reunion appearence a few years ago. Ahhh those New Wavy 80's that I used to watch on Toronto Rocks...

I remember when platinum blonde played that free show at city hall in Toronto...my step dad took me, I was like 6 or 7 haha.

*sings* STANDING IN THE DARK!

lmao

There are a lot of awesome Canadian bands though...Arcade Fire, Wolf Parade, Stars, Metric, Broken Social Scene.

I don't know if any of you are into indie music, but Canada basically rules that scene right now.

Few months back purchased Paltinum Blonde and haywire Cd's! The memories!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Bee is a huge indie buff and was so proud when he picked up the Arcade Fire album. "LOOK HONEY THEY'RE CANADIAN!" I'm not a huge fan of their stuff personally, but I am fond of Broken Social Scene and the lovely Feist. Though, I don't think she's considered indie!

Nini - Vancouver BC, Canada (she's the one who does the forum thing)

Bee - Devon PA, USA (he's the one who gave her the shiny ring)

Here we go again...

Nah you're right she's gotten pretty big. Though is still on an independent label.

I went to highschool with some of the members of BSS. Kevin Drew, Emily Haines and Amy Millan.

BUT

I didn't even know them so it doesn't count. :(

Have you ever seen Arcade Fire live? HOLEE #######! Thats a band that leaves me begging for more. <3

No one's mentioned Great Big Sea! I like them and Blue Rodeo. Good Caberet bands.

Carla (F)

mmmm GBS.... They are gosh darn good.. although I hear from a very reliable source that the lead singer is an #######..

The Irish Descendants rock too.. but I wouldn't admit to that one under normal "real life" circumstances !!

Well, I had to drop out of this conversation for a while because I had no idea who or what some of you were talking about! Guess that shows my age.

Love GBS and Blue Rodeo and a bunch of others mentioned. The Guess Who/Burton Cummings and April Wine was a favourite for me back in the day. AW played at our high school dance. :o I love love LOVE Gordie Lightfoot. Ohmygosh, there are just so many fantastic Canadian artists. You'd need a spreadsheet to list them all. Liz? lol

Why has nobody mentioned Anne Murray?

Kritkit, you must be around the same age as me....

We had April Wine, Lighthouse, Edward Bear, Judas Priest, The Stampeders (not the Football team) at our highschool dances.

Carla (F)

Anne Murray was mentioned in either this thread earlier, or maybe it was the OT forum here.
