Got a few...

Don't let your MIL and/or SIL try to rule who you invite and who you don't, what you have as a meal or whether you use fake or natural flowers... Is your day so do what you like...

Ana, Does this sound familiar to me? Oh yes... They're giving me hard time with that! but I nicely stand for what I want (that's not easy!!!!). Thank you for the advice! :)

It happened to me, think they took advantage cause I was all alone (probably just like you)... I could sit down and tell you for hours the things they did or said... or didn't say! After the wedding I found out ever more stuff.. But what the heck! We had a great time, and in the end, I had the wedding I wanted!

I didn't let them rule over anything, and politely dismissed the things they suggested that I didn't like (sometimes I must admit I wasn't too polite! But they were driving me UP THE WALL!)

If you don't know your makeup artist, do not wait for the day of your wedding to have your makeup done! Do a trial before hand! If you know how to do your own makeup, then do it yourself instead of having it done by someone who's never seen you before!

I wanted a tint of green eye shadow and the makeup artist at the spa told me people normally don't do such a thing. I was pissed off bcz i'm paying her to do what i want her to do!! She ended up doing it, but i still regret going to her. I shoulda done my own makeup.

If you wear a corsage, don't try to eat too much, it'll hurt...

Also, make sure noone steps on your dress, that can get ugly.

You should not let your hubbie get too drunk or the wedding night will end not as planned (mine was kind enough to switch to water after midnight)

Disposable cameras are nice, but I think it's better to have a relative (uncle or so?) take pictures, so you don't have the same thing 30 times and after everyone dances and all, no pictures at all any more.

If you can, try out your hair and makeup.

And the best tip....breathe!!! It's essential.

Tell your wedding party you would appeciate it if they celebrated the NIGHT OF the wedding not the night before...I had to go drag two of my brothers out of the bar after midnight the night before our wedding..and one was the best man..arggggggggggghhhh. hahahahaha. I'm sure no one would actually do that, but I was annoyed...had I left him there he would have stayed til bar time and he was a bit hungover the next day anyway!!! ;):) M.

PS..choose rings you REALLY REALLY like..you're going to be wearing them a longgggggggg timeeeeeeeeeeee. :) We just got widish plain gold bands, and I love it because it represents our love for one another..but I wish we had had the time/money to get something just a little more fancy... :) No worries tho! :) M.

-- I second the emotion on getting comfortable shoes. I wore cute little white sandals from Payless and I was sooo comfy -- it was great! And I also agree with the silk flowers comment -- we used silk flowers for my maid of honour bouquet and the flowergirls' baskets, and you couldn't tell they weren't real.

--If there is a friend or family member who is a great amateur photographer, ask them to take lots of pics and give them some film. My brother takes amazing pictures, especially black and white ones. So I asked him to make sure he took B&Ws during the ceremony. these turned out to be some of my favourite pictures of the whole day. Which is good, since our "official" photographer's pictures were hit or miss as far as good pictures go.

--Find a couple things for the two moms to do i nthe days leading up to the wedding. It'll keep them occupied (and our of your hair!) and help them to feel like part of the day.

--Instead of a guestbook at the reception, we had little cards with "share a wedding wish for Cheryl & Jerry" printed on them for people to write on, and had a pretty vase for them to be dropped in once filled out. When I put together our wedding scrapbook, I arranged them amongst the pictures -- it turned out nice. :)

One of the things I loved about our wedding was that it was small enough to do some special touches. My favourite was the gift we gave to our guests (9 couples/families, and one for us). I bought some pewter dove ornaments, and had "Cheryl & Jerry Nov 7/04" etched on the back, and gave them out. It made for a nice keepsake of the day. :)

At the reception of a friend's wedding, they had an easel standing in the corner of the ballroom were everybody was to paint a little heart on a picture. A wonderful memory of the wedding. And a great way to involve kids too!

I was talking with my husband about this thread and he reminded me of a BIG tip for the wedding day.

If you're wearing a white dress don't forget to include a bleach pen as a part of your emergency kit! I got a little bit of blood on my dress from a nick on my leg when trying my dress on the morning of the wedding. So we had to rush to the nearest Wal-Mart to get a bleach pen. Luckily it took the stain right out.

That's an excellent tip!

Here's something else to consider: if you're using disposable cameras (or well, it's a tip for all kinds of cameras, actually) make sure they can handle the light situation at your wedding. That is especially crucial if you're having a wedding outside at sunset like me. I doubt that the normal disposable cameras can handle the darkness.

I went to a really funky wedding of two good friends from college who used fishbowls, with real fish, as centerpieces and had us take all the pictures with disposable cameras left on each table. The bride also had the bridesmaids carry little candle glasses with tea lights in them (it was a nighttime fall wedding) instead of flowers, which looked really pretty and different.

I LOVE the fishbowl idea! Then all the kids can bring them home! :P

My mind is so crazy right now from planning my wedding I can't think of any off the top of my head but if you ask me a question I probably have an answer!

I have a sticky note on my computer of all the things not to eat before the wedding because they give you gas :)

designate someone to make and save a plate of food for you... you will wind up getting a plate and then setting it down to talk/have a pic taken with someone and lose your plate and wind up not eating (if you still cant eat it, pack it in a box and take it for snacking off of thru the night)

if you are getting married outside:

~dont try to light a unity candle if its windy

~heels dont work well on soft ground

and we took pieces of mulberry paper in different shapes and colors and had folks write on them and place them in a basket... we have a scrapbook and have put them with the pics in it... also the gift cards are a part of the scrapbook

relax and have a good time... when its all over, you will be man and wife and joined together as one... enjoy the ride

I made our invitations and it was really fun and personalized. If you don't have a huge guestlist, I'd suggest doing it(we had 80 ppl). It's much cheaper and you can make it better than what you'd see in a catalog. If I find it, I'll have to take a pic of our invitation and show it on here.

ooh also...If you want to get more personalized with tables at the reception, don't number them....name them! We named each table a different city in India. Then on the table we printed out a little bit of facts about that city and where it is on the map of India. It was fun. You can name them cities of both spouses' countries, etc. I also have a lot more tips for someone who really wants to personalize their wedding...you can PM me if you want to ask any details about what I did.

-We made table clothes out of muslin fabric, which we painted huge paisleys on, and then covered with sheer fabric.

-We used candy dishes with color coordinating candy in them as centerpieces.

-We put Indian looking candles on each table which we bought at the dollar store.

-We taught everyone who wanted to participate a stick dance of India.

-My bridesmaids did an Indian dance which I choreographed, and everyone truly felt like they were in India. Luckily we all have dancing experience! I wish I could put that dancing video clip online!!

-I had relatives with really good handwriting write the table seating arrangement cards.

-We used cupcakes stacked on terracotta pots for our cake.

sorry too much detail! :content: But our wedding cost about $1000 and it was awesome, thanks to doing a lot ourselves.
