Hi everyone

We have our AOS interview on December 18th and we would like to travel on December 19th.

I have my employment authorization card and advance parole documents which are valid until next March.

I'm assuming we'll be ok to visit the UK on the 19th? I've heard some centers are not stamping passports? We're visiting the one in Metairie, Louisiana.

If they don't stamp my passport, then I guess we can travel on the advance parole documents anyway?

Anyone had a similar experience? I just want to make sure I can get back in the country again without having the green card in hand first! :)

If you are approved you must either have the stamp in your passport or have the greencard in hand. You cannot travel on AP if you have approved AOS. If you are not fully adjudicated at the close of your interview (ie: namecheck) you can travel on your AP.

If you are approved, beg for that stamp.

Mark,

Just an FYI - AOS Interview doesn't necessarily mean green card approval upon exiting the interview (even assuming all goes well, and you're 'approved'). EAD is not valid for travel - so if your AP is valid, you'll likely be relying on this.

If the interview results in APPROVED the officer should stamp your passport with I-551 stamp, your passport becomes a temp green-card allowing work and re-entry after a trip out of the country.

The interviewing officer may take the EAD card and AP is they approve you, the I-551 stamp replaces those documents.

Hi, we realise the interview is not a guaranteed 'yes', hence the interview process itself, but I'm just wondering, regardless of the outcome if we should book tickets or not. Given the first response it looks like we should wait :( What a pain, we had the trip all planned (except tickets).

If it were me, I would plan on going.

Bring the tickets with you as proof of your trip and if they do not give you the stamp, respectfully ask to speak with the supervisor to see if they will.

I agree take the tickets with you and if you are approved you can ask for the I-551 stamp.... if they ask for your AP but wount say if you are approved then show them your tickets and ask then how you are ment to travel.... take it all the way to the supervisor if you need too...

after my husband's interview for AOS this week in Garden City, NY the ladiy said that she couldn't give us the I-551 stamp in the passport as they weren't doing it anymore. But she wrote in the passport

10/17/07

A#XXXXXXXXXX

I-485 Pending CF-1

Sec 245, G.C. NY

DOA (her last Name)

She also said that he passed FBI name check and that the green card will take up to a month to arrive. We have AP for my husband. But as this point I'm not sure if he could travel as it "appears that things are pending" even though she said he is going to get the green card.
